Great cars however they are holding onto their value a bit, pricey for a second hand one. It's a lot larger than my previous car. I'm really looking forward to putting it through the family time paces.

Lovely big car, very comfy and great to drive. Not as economical as the Sportage but worth it for the extra space. This is the second one Ive bought as I really enjoy the drive.

This car has got all possible futures. The ratio price/quality is amazing. One disappointment - even the dearest variant doesnt offer a driver seat massage. Ive compared Kia Sorento KX4 with Skoda Kodiaq Edition.

Kia Sorento (2015-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Practical interior | Seat Tarraco is better to drive |
| Third-row seats are roomier than most | It's a big car to park |
| 4WD as standard | Diesel-only engine range |
Quick Summary
The Kia Sorento (2015-2019) is a spacious and well-equipped seven-seat SUV that represents excellent value in the premium family car market. This third-generation model shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Santa Fe and rivals the Skoda Kodiaq and Seat Tarraco. It features a quality cabin with soft-touch plastics, comfortable front seats, and a well-laid-out dashboard. The second row offers generous space for three adults, whilst the third row accommodates children or occasional adult passengers. Boot space ranges from 142 litres with all seats up to 1,732 litres with the middle and rear rows folded, providing versatility for families and tow car duties.
The Sorento is powered by a single 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine producing 197bhp, available with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions (upgraded to eight-speed from 2018). Whilst not engaging to drive, it prioritises comfort with soft suspension that absorbs road imperfections well. Real-world fuel economy sits around 35mpg with the manual and 30-32mpg with the automatic. Insurance groups range from 24 to 27, and servicing is due every 12 months or 20,000 miles. The Sorento is a sturdy, reliable, and practical choice for families needing space and capability, with four-wheel drive fitted as standard across all versions.
Best for: Families needing seven seats, caravan and boat owners seeking a capable tow car, and buyers prioritising practicality and comfort over driving dynamics.
Not ideal for: Those seeking engaging handling, drivers who find large SUVs difficult to park, or buyers preferring petrol engine options.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Sorento | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 28.8% | 4.2/5 |
| Peugeot 5008 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 34.6% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Kodiaq | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 36.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Land Rover Discovery Sport | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.1% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Sorento if: You need a spacious seven-seat SUV, require a capable tow car, or prioritise practicality and comfort for family journeys over driving engagement.
Consider alternatives if: You seek engaging handling dynamics, find large vehicles challenging to manoeuvre, or prefer petrol engine options.
Competitive Position: The Kia Sorento (2015-2019) is a solid contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering excellent practicality, comfort, and value. Whilst it lacks the driving dynamics of the Seat Tarraco or the premium feel of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, it delivers a sturdy, reliable, and spacious family car with four-wheel drive as standard. The Peugeot 5008 and Skoda Kodiaq offer slightly better value propositions, but the Sorento remains an outstanding choice for families prioritising space, comfort, and capability at a competitive price point.
