Kia Soul EV (2020-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Good to drive | Boot is on the small side |
| Lots of standard equipment | Being EV-only means it's expensive to buy |
| Roomy for passengers | High insurance group |
Quick Summary
The Kia Soul EV (2020-2024) is the third generation of the Soul and the first to be offered exclusively with an electric powertrain. Aimed at young buyers seeking fashionable styling and electric power, it offers impressive range and equipment levels at competitive prices on the used market. Available with two battery options – a 39.2kWh Urban model with 171 miles of WLTP range and a 64kWh Explore model with greater range – the Soul EV delivers smooth, progressive steering and a neutral chassis that instils confidence in town and on country roads alike. The adjustable regenerative braking system and four driving modes allow customisation of driving characteristics, whilst 0-62mph acceleration of 7.5 seconds demonstrates enthusiastic performance.
Real-world range figures are impressive, with the larger battery model achieving around 250 miles easily and 220 miles on motorway journeys. Charging from a 7.4kW home wallbox takes less than 11 hours, whilst rapid DC charging delivers 80% charge in approximately 45 minutes. The Soul EV is very efficient and cheap to run, with excellent infotainment systems featuring sharp 10.25-inch touchscreens and comprehensive connectivity. Whilst the boot is smaller than rivals at 315 litres, the roomy interior offers extraordinary headroom for passengers. As a used buy, it represents excellent value for money, particularly when compared to new prices, offering impressive range and equipment levels that few competitors can match.
Best for: Buyers seeking an affordable, long-range used electric car with excellent equipment and passenger space, and those who appreciate stylish, extrovert design.
Not ideal for: Those requiring a large boot, buyers prioritising the lowest purchase price, or those in high insurance groups seeking to minimise premiums.

The Verdict
You should buy the Soul EV if: You're seeking an affordable, long-range used electric car with excellent equipment and passenger space, and you appreciate stylish, extrovert design.
Consider alternatives if: You require a large boot, prioritise the lowest purchase price, or seek to minimise insurance premiums.
Competitive Position: The Kia Soul EV is a fantastic all-round electric car that represents excellent value on the used market. Whilst the MG ZS EV offers a slightly higher overall CarGurus rating and the Peugeot e-2008 has more good/great deals available, the Soul EV excels with its impressive range, roomy interior for passengers, and comprehensive equipment levels. It outperforms both the Peugeot and VW ID.3 in user ratings and delivers a more engaging driving experience than most rivals. For buyers willing to accept a smaller boot in exchange for style, range, and equipment, the Soul EV is a compelling choice that punches above its weight in the used electric car market.
