Range Rover Sport (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastically luxurious interior | Potential question marks over brand reliability |
| Great to drive on and off road | No seven-seat option |
| Impressive electric-only range on PHEV models | Higher-spec models are very pricey |
Quick Summary
The Range Rover Sport (2023-present) is a world-class luxury SUV that combines modern, lavish styling with exceptional interior quality and versatile powertrains. This third-generation model sits on an all-new platform and measures 4.95 metres long, positioning it as a direct rival to the BMW X5. The spacious five-seat layout offers limousine-like rear accommodation with a generous 647-litre boot, whilst the adaptive air suspension delivers outstanding ride comfort without compromising handling. Engine options include turbocharged diesel and petrol six-cylinders, plus two plug-in hybrid variants offering up to 70 miles of pure electric range and impressive combined economy figures.
The Range Rover Sport excels in delivering a refined, balanced driving experience whether you seek relaxation or spirited cornering. The latest Pivi Pro infotainment system is intuitive and feature-rich, whilst comprehensive standard equipment across all trims makes even the entry-level SE model well-appointed. However, potential reliability concerns persist within the Land Rover brand, and the premium pricing—particularly for higher-spec models—positions this as one of the more expensive options in the luxury SUV segment. Four-wheel steering, which significantly improves manoeuvrability, is only available on Autobiography and First Edition models.
Best for: Buyers seeking a luxurious, capable family SUV with excellent refinement, those wanting plug-in hybrid efficiency without compromising performance, and drivers prioritising interior quality and on-road comfort.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those requiring seven seats, purchasers concerned about brand reliability, or those needing four-wheel steering on entry-level models.

The Verdict
You should buy the Range Rover Sport if: You seek a luxurious, capable family SUV with excellent refinement, want plug-in hybrid efficiency without compromising performance, or prioritise interior quality and on-road comfort.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, require seven seats, have concerns about brand reliability, or need four-wheel steering on entry-level models.
Competitive Position: The Range Rover Sport (2023-present) is a compelling choice in the premium luxury SUV segment, offering outstanding interior quality, refined driving dynamics, and versatile powertrains including impressive plug-in hybrid options. Whilst the BMW X5 edges ahead with a five-star expert rating and marginally better value proposition, the Range Rover Sport delivers comparable user satisfaction and overall CarGurus ratings. It outperforms the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLE in value availability, though both rivals offer distinct strengths. The Range Rover Sport's principal drawbacks—reliability concerns and premium pricing for higher-spec models—prevent it from achieving five-star status, yet it remains a world-class option for discerning buyers prioritising luxury and capability.

What people say
Very comfortable plenty of space seating and boot and the 4.4 litre engine has plenty of power
Yes the car was good value. It has the added advantage of having a retractable towbar which if we had chosen a different model would have cost us another £3000 to have one fitted. Hence the reason we bought it.
