Land Rover Range Rover Sport (2022-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Fantastically luxurious interior	Question marks over brand reliability
Great to drive on and off road	No seven-seat option
Impressive EV range for PHEV models	Higher-spec models are very pricey

Quick Summary

The Range Rover Sport (2022-present) is a world-class luxury SUV that combines modern styling with exceptional refinement and versatility. Based on JLR's MLA-Flex platform, this third-generation model offers limousine-like rear space, a generous 647-litre boot, and a comprehensive suite of powertrains including diesel mild-hybrids, petrol plug-in hybrids with up to 71.5 miles of electric-only range, and twin-turbo V8 options. The adaptive air suspension delivers outstanding ride comfort, whilst the light steering and rear-wheel steering on higher trims make this substantial five-metre SUV surprisingly easy to manoeuvre and genuinely enjoyable to drive.

Every model comes well equipped as standard, with even the entry-level S featuring 20-inch alloys, leather upholstery, heated seats, and a Meridian sound system. The 13.1-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the replacement of physical climate controls with touchscreen settings has divided opinion. Fit and finish is excellent throughout, with plush materials and impressive attention to detail befitting a luxury car at this price point. However, durability concerns persist around the Land Rover brand, and running costs are predictably high for a large, powerful SUV. The lack of a seven-seat option may also disappoint some buyers.

Best for: Buyers seeking a luxurious, refined, and capable SUV with impressive performance and technology, those wanting a plug-in hybrid with genuine electric range, and drivers who value comfort and on-road refinement.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those prioritising brand reliability, families needing seven seats, or buyers seeking the lowest running costs in the luxury SUV segment.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Range Rover Sport if: You seek a luxurious, refined, and capable SUV with impressive performance and technology, want a plug-in hybrid with genuine electric range, or prioritise comfort and on-road refinement.

Consider alternatives if: You are budget-conscious, prioritise brand reliability, need seven seats, or require the lowest running costs in the luxury SUV segment.

Competitive Position: The Range Rover Sport is a standout luxury SUV that excels in refinement, interior quality, and driving dynamics. Whilst it commands a premium price and carries durability concerns around the Land Rover brand, its exceptional comfort, comprehensive equipment, and impressive plug-in hybrid technology make it highly competitive. The BMW X5 offers better value and reliability, whilst the Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz GLE provide alternative approaches to luxury SUV ownership. However, for buyers prioritising a beautifully crafted interior and a balanced blend of comfort and capability, the Range Rover Sport remains a compelling choice.
