MG4 (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fantastic value for money | Not quite as accommodating for passengers or luggage as a Volkswagen ID.3 |
| Surprisingly fun to drive | Sound system in SE models isn’t the best-sounding |
| Generously equipped, even in entry-level SE spec | Steering wheel infotainment controls a bit fiddly |
Quick Summary
The MG4 (2022-present) is a game-changing all-electric family hatchback with futuristic styling, built on a dedicated EV platform. This allows for a spacious, modern-feeling interior with a flat floor and a minimalist dashboard featuring a large touchscreen. It's priced to compete with smaller electric superminis but offers the practicality of a larger car, with a 363-litre boot. Available in SE and Trophy trims, it offers a choice of battery sizes and impressive electric range.
The range includes Standard Range (218 miles), Long Range (up to 281 miles), and a new Extended Range (323 miles). Most models are rear-wheel drive and surprisingly fun to drive, with an agile feel and comfortable ride. For ultimate performance, the 429bhp, all-wheel-drive XPower model offers supercar-like acceleration. Running costs are low thanks to good efficiency and fast charging (up to 125kW), while exceptionally strong predicted residual values make it very affordable on finance.
Best for: Value-conscious buyers seeking a well-equipped family EV, drivers who enjoy an agile and fun driving experience, and those wanting hypercar-rivalling performance for a bargain price (XPower).
Not ideal for: Those who need the largest possible boot in the class, buyers who prefer premium brand prestige, or drivers who find touchscreen-based controls for functions like climate control distracting.

The Verdict
You should buy the MG4 if: You want a fantastic value, well-equipped, and fun-to-drive family EV, or you're seeking incredible performance for the money with the XPower model.
Consider alternatives if: You need the absolute maximum practicality offered by rivals like the VW ID.3, prioritise a premium badge, or dislike relying on a touchscreen for core functions.
Competitive Position: The MG4 (2022-present) has redefined the affordable EV market. It offers a package of style, technology, driving enjoyment, and practicality at a price point that significantly undercuts key rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. While its interior quality isn’t on par with premium brands, its overall value proposition is almost unbeatable, making it a top contender for any electric car buyer. The wide model range, from the affordable SE to the ferociously fast XPower, broadens its appeal even further.

4.8 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Cons: Compared to a Nissan Leaf the ride is a bit fidgety and not as comfortable. The interior feels dark and rear visibility is compromised. Pros: Very well priced. Plenty of power. Good looks.
Theres nothing really to which you can compare this car. The price, kit , looks and driving pleasure are all there. Even the clean design of the dashboard looks good. Nothing to beat it at the price!
Have the Trophy LR. It is well equipped with tech, but it requires a USB cable to use Android Auto and that is inconvenient. It drives well and it is responsive.
SE model needs cruise control and Satnav
Great value excellent features Looking forward to collecting soon
