MG4 (2026) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Enjoyable to drive | Infotainment system is fiddly to use |
| Generously equipped across the range | Reliability could be an issue |
Quick Summary
The MG4 is a distinctive and modern electric hatchback designed from the ground up as an EV, offering impressive practicality and performance at a competitive price. Built on the Modular Scalable Platform, it benefits from a flat floor and slim battery pack, creating an airy interior with 363 litres of boot space. Available in multiple versions including the Standard Range (217-mile range), Long Range (288-mile range), Extended Range (338-mile range), and the high-performance XPower with dual motors and 429bhp, the MG4 caters to diverse driving needs. Rapid charging capabilities allow the 64kWh battery to reach 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions.
The MG4 delivers an engaging driving experience with rear-wheel drive on standard models, offering agility and responsive handling. Its smooth, supple ride quality is impressive for an electric vehicle, whilst long-distance cruising credentials are excellent with quiet, stable motorway performance. The interior features a modern, tablet-style touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though the interface can be fiddly. Build quality is solid, comparable to mainstream brands like Kia and Toyota. With strong residual values and competitive pricing versus rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3, the MG4 represents excellent value for budget-conscious EV buyers seeking space, performance and equipment.
Best for: Budget-conscious EV buyers seeking a spacious, well-equipped electric hatchback with strong performance and practicality, and those wanting an affordable high-performance option (XPower).
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum interior space and boot capacity, those requiring an intuitive infotainment system, or those concerned about long-term reliability of newer EV brands.

The Verdict
You should buy the MG4 if: You're seeking a spacious, well-equipped electric hatchback with strong performance and practicality at a competitive price, or looking for an affordable high-performance EV option (XPower).
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum interior space and boot capacity, demand an intuitive infotainment system, or have concerns about long-term reliability of newer EV brands.
Competitive Position: The MG4 is a compelling proposition in the affordable electric hatchback market, offering excellent value against established rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. Whilst it doesn't match the ID.3 for interior space or the Cupra Born for premium feel, its competitive pricing, strong residual values, engaging driving dynamics and generous equipment levels make it an outstanding choice for budget-conscious EV buyers. The availability of multiple battery options and the thrilling XPower variant further enhance its appeal, positioning it as a mature and well-rounded electric offering from MG.

4.5 Overall rating
(2 reviews)Cons: Compared to a Nissan Leaf the ride is a bit fidgety and not as comfortable. The interior feels dark and rear visibility is compromised. Pros: Very well priced. Plenty of power. Good looks.
Theres nothing really to which you can compare this car. The price, kit , looks and driving pleasure are all there. Even the clean design of the dashboard looks good. Nothing to beat it at the price!
