MG4 (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Generously equipped across the range | Reliability could be an issue |
Quick Summary
The MG4 marks MG's coming of age for the 21st century, particularly in the electric vehicle market. Built on the Modular Scalable Platform designed solely for EVs, the MG4 features distinctive, grown-up styling and thoughtful interior design. Its rear-wheel-drive layout delivers agile, lively handling with a smooth, supple ride. Available in multiple specifications—from the Standard Range with 217 miles of range to the Extended Range with 338 miles—the MG4 caters to various driving needs. The performance-focused XPower variant offers dual motors, all-wheel drive, and 429bhp for thrilling acceleration.
The MG4 excels in value, offering competitive pricing against rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 whilst maintaining strong residual values. Standard equipment is generous, including adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking, and modern infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Running costs are reasonable, with efficiency around 3.6 to 3.8 miles per kWh. Whilst the infotainment system can be fiddly and build quality isn't premium, the MG4 represents excellent value for money, delivering space, performance, and equipment without feeling short-changed compared to mainstream competitors.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a modern, well-equipped electric hatchback, those prioritising strong value and residual values, and drivers wanting enjoyable handling with practical range options.
Not ideal for: Buyers requiring maximum interior space (the ID.3 is roomier), those seeking premium build quality, or those concerned about long-term reliability of newer Chinese brands.

The Verdict
You should buy the MG4 if: You're seeking a modern, well-equipped electric hatchback with strong value, prioritise enjoyable handling, or want multiple range options from a single model line.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum interior space, prefer premium build quality, or have concerns about newer Chinese brand reliability.
Competitive Position: The MG4 is a compelling proposition in the affordable electric hatchback market, matching the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born on expert ratings whilst offering superior user satisfaction and competitive pricing. Its rear-wheel-drive handling dynamics set it apart from front-wheel-drive rivals, and its strong residual values make it particularly attractive for those financing via PCP. Whilst the ID.3 offers more interior space and the Cupra Born provides sportier credentials, the MG4's combination of value, equipment, and driving enjoyment makes it a highly sensible choice for budget-conscious EV buyers. The XPower variant also delivers impressive performance at an accessible price point.

4.8 Overall rating
(5 reviews)Cons: Compared to a Nissan Leaf the ride is a bit fidgety and not as comfortable. The interior feels dark and rear visibility is compromised. Pros: Very well priced. Plenty of power. Good looks.
Theres nothing really to which you can compare this car. The price, kit , looks and driving pleasure are all there. Even the clean design of the dashboard looks good. Nothing to beat it at the price!
Have the Trophy LR. It is well equipped with tech, but it requires a USB cable to use Android Auto and that is inconvenient. It drives well and it is responsive.
SE model needs cruise control and Satnav
Great value excellent features Looking forward to collecting soon
