MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of interior space | Interior doesn't impress as much for quality |
| Well equipped | Infotainment has some ergonomic issues |
| Very stylish interior | Many rivals ride more comfortably |
Quick Summary
The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is the third-generation version of MINI's family SUV, offering considerably more space and practicality than its predecessors. This generation is noticeably larger in every direction, providing generous interior space with excellent legroom and headroom for all occupants. The boot is a decent size with additional underfloor storage, and rear seats fold in a 60/40 or 40/20/40 split for increased cargo capacity. The range includes three petrol variants—the entry-level C, mid-range S, and high-performance John Cooper Works (JCW)—plus two all-electric versions (E and SE), all featuring MINI's signature style and cheeky character.
The standout feature is the industry-first circular OLED infotainment screen, which looks brilliant but can feel cluttered with information. Interior quality is mixed, with stylish glitzy elements contrasting with hard, scratchy plastics in less visible areas. The C model delivers adequate performance with 168bhp, whilst the JCW offers thrilling 296bhp with all-wheel drive and adaptive suspension for improved comfort. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg (C) to 36.2mpg (JCW), with electric versions offering up to 287 miles of range. Running costs are reasonable for a premium-badged midsize SUV, starting around £30,000 for the C version.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, spacious SUV with MINI's distinctive style and character, buyers wanting premium brand appeal with generous standard equipment, and those interested in electric vehicle options. Not ideal for: Those prioritising interior material quality over style, drivers wanting intuitive infotainment systems, or buyers seeking the most comfortable ride in the compact SUV segment.

The Verdict
You should buy the Countryman if: You're seeking a practical, spacious SUV with distinctive MINI style and character, want generous standard equipment, or are interested in premium-badged compact SUVs with electric options.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise interior material quality, require the most intuitive infotainment system, or need the most comfortable ride in the segment.
Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a strong contender in the compact premium SUV market, offering excellent interior space and stylish design that rivals the Audi Q2, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. Whilst it may not match some competitors for interior material quality or ride comfort, its distinctive character, generous standard equipment, and range of powertrain options—including electric variants—make it an appealing choice for families wanting a premium SUV with personality. The circular OLED infotainment screen is innovative, though it requires some adjustment to master. Overall, it delivers excellent practicality and style for those prioritising MINI's cheeky brand identity.

The MINI Mini Countryman is highly regarded for its fun driving experience, comfort, and stylish design. Many owners appreciate its nippy performance and the added height that makes it feel more like an SUV. However, some have expressed concerns about visibility in tight spots and the overall price, especially when factoring in additional features that may not be standard. Overall, it's a compact SUV that balances practicality and enjoyment.

What people say
We love our Mini Countryman. I have owned Minis since the very first one came out in the 1960s I have owned other cars including BMWs and Mercedes but I always have a soft spot for Minis as they are good value for money, stylish, classless and fun to drive.
Great car , economical , easy to drive with all the features you need . I don’t want to drive anything else ….. I love it
Car is missing nothing. Good value and a pleasure to drive. Like the added height.
This is my 3rd Mini and my 2nd Countryman. This version is soooooo different from my 2013 Cooper DS, so much has been updated and I absolutely love it! The ride is smooth the handling is as I expect, in 3 words - I love it!
Absolutely love this car, you sit really high while driving you don’t feel any bumps in the road . Great drive really comfy
