MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Lots of interior space	Interior doesn't impress as much for quality
Well equipped	Infotainment has some ergonomic issues
Very stylish interior	Many rivals ride more comfortably

Quick Summary

The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a premium midsize SUV that combines the brand's cheeky character with genuine family practicality. This third-generation model is considerably larger than its predecessor, offering generous interior space, a spacious boot with additional underfloor storage, and flexible seating arrangements including optional sliding rear seats. The range includes three petrol variants—the entry-level C, mid-range S, and high-performance John Cooper Works (JCW)—alongside two all-electric options: the E and SE. The standout feature is the industry-first circular OLED infotainment screen, which looks brilliant but can feel cluttered with information.

The C model delivers adequate performance with 168bhp and 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds, whilst the JCW offers muscular 296bhp and 5.4-second acceleration with adaptive suspension for improved ride quality. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg for the C to 36.2mpg for the JCW, with electric variants offering up to 287 miles of range. Standard equipment is generous, including LED lighting, roof rails, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, and a heated steering wheel. However, some interior plastics lack the quality expected of the MINI brand, the infotainment system has ergonomic quirks, and the ride is notably firm. As a used car, it represents solid value for those seeking premium-badged practicality with distinctive styling.

Best for: Families seeking a spacious, stylish premium SUV with MINI's distinctive character, and those wanting practical electric options with good range.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising interior material quality, intuitive infotainment systems, or a comfortable, compliant ride over rivals.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Countryman if: You're seeking a spacious, stylish premium SUV with distinctive character, need practical family transport, or want an electric option with impressive range.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise interior material quality, intuitive infotainment systems, or a comfortable, compliant ride over rivals.

Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) holds its own in the premium midsize SUV segment, offering excellent space, generous standard equipment, and distinctive styling. Whilst the BMW X1 edges ahead on overall ratings and the Mercedes-Benz GLA impresses users, the Countryman's unique character and practical design make it compelling for those wanting something different. The firm ride and infotainment quirks are trade-offs for the brand's cheeky appeal and strong practicality. As a used car, it represents solid value for budget-conscious buyers seeking premium credentials with genuine family functionality.
