Mazda CX-30 (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Head-turning looks, inside and out | Skyactiv-X engine is sophisticated, but sluggish in the mid-range |
| Good to drive | Rear legroom is in short supply |
| Choice of front- and four-wheel drive | Boot is small and lacks clever features |
Quick Summary
The Mazda CX-30 (2019-present) is a stylish compact SUV based on the Mazda3 platform with a shorter wheelbase. It features a minimalist, well-made cabin with a head-up display as standard and an intuitive rotary dial infotainment system. The CX-30 offers two 2.0-litre petrol engines: the older Skyactiv-G producing 120bhp and the more advanced Skyactiv-X with 178bhp, which uses compression ignition technology for diesel-like fuel economy of 47.9mpg without diesel emissions. Both engines feature Mazda's M Hybrid mild hybrid system, though neither is particularly perky in the mid-range.
The CX-30 is a pleasure to drive with responsive steering, smooth ride quality, and lively handling, complemented by one of the best manual gearshifts in the SUV class. However, the shorter wheelbase compromises rear legroom, and the 430-litre boot lacks practical features like sliding rear seats. All five trim levels (SE-L, SEL-Lux, Sport-Lux, GT Sport, and GT Sport Tech) are generously equipped with automatic headlights, adaptive cruise control, and air-conditioning. A six-speed manual is standard, with a smooth six-speed automatic available, and all-wheel drive is an option on Skyactiv-X models.
Best for: Buyers seeking a stylish, well-made compact SUV with engaging driving dynamics and modern technology, particularly those who value design and interior quality over maximum practicality.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising rear legroom or boot space, or drivers needing a more powerful engine for spirited driving without working it hard.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mazda CX-30 | 3/5 | 4.8/5 | 30.9% | 4.1/5 |
| Skoda Karoq | 5/5 | 5.0/5 | 28.1% | 4.5/5 |
| Seat Ateca | 4/5 | 4.1/5 | 33.0% | 4.2/5 |
| Volvo XC40 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.6% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the CX-30 if: You're drawn to distinctive styling, value engaging driving dynamics, and appreciate a well-crafted interior with modern technology in a compact SUV package.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear legroom, a larger boot with practical features, or need more mid-range engine performance without working the engine hard.
Competitive Position: The Mazda CX-30 (2019-present) stands out in the compact SUV segment for its striking design and engaging driving experience. Whilst the Skoda Karoq offers superior practicality and space, and the Volvo XC40 provides premium appeal, the CX-30 excels in style and driving enjoyment. The Seat Ateca offers good value, but the Mazda's superior interior quality and handling dynamics justify its position. For buyers prioritising aesthetics and driving pleasure over maximum practicality, the CX-30 is an excellent choice, though those seeking roominess should consider the Karoq.

(5 reviews)Very good value the features on it are excellent the boot could be bigger thou
The car is very well built, comfortable and very stylish inside and out!The amount of tech it comes with is mind blowing. I consider it great value for money. Would I recommend it, yes I would. Would I buy another, yes I would.
The car is superb. Mazda quality is unbelievable for the money. The exclusive line has everything you need. So much you might want to turn one or two of the assistance modes off. I love the centre consul dials. So easy to use on the move. They soon become effortless and the screen is so clear. Loads of room for me and my wife. Very very comfortable once you relax in to it. The X engine in two wheel drive form is an absolute joy. Quick and responsive at the right revs. That leaves the clutch and gear box one word. Superb. The words I would use in summary are Top Quality and great to drive. The Bose us awesome. A lot of cars these days have huge unnecessary screens that do nothing particularly well and are a pain to use. They dont even look good. Go look as a Mazda they have it right. This car is for couples and small families To compare it to a full SUV would be unfair. It is part SUV so a crossover. Dont let that put you off Go drive it. Its a dream.
I chino the modelo la hice and safe I can compare with toyota maker
An amazing deal for my trade-in and an excellent price for the cx30. It’s Packed with exciting features but not quite as nice to drive as my previous Mazda 6 estate.
