Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2022-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| The PHEV has a class-leading electric range | Not as sharp to drive as a BMW 3 Series |
| Beautifully finished interior | There are roomier cars for less money |
| MBUX infotainment system looks stunning | Bland styling |
Quick Summary
The fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a premium executive car available as a saloon or estate. It offers a range of mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines, but its standout feature is the C300e plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which boasts a class-leading official electric range of up to 68 miles. The C-Class's interior is a highlight, featuring a high-quality finish and the stunning MBUX infotainment system with its large, clear screens. Practicality is adequate, but rivals like the Audi A4 offer more passenger room, and the PHEV’s boot space is reduced to 315 litres.
On the road, the C-Class is a composed, refined, and comfortable cruiser, with the PHEV model being exceptionally quiet in electric mode. While it is satisfying to drive, it doesn’t offer the same level of driver engagement or sharp handling as a BMW 3 Series. Standard equipment is generous across the range, but some desirable features like adaptive cruise control are reserved for expensive option packs. The C300e is a particularly compelling choice for company car drivers due to its low tax rating, making the C-Class a strong contender for those prioritising comfort, technology, and efficiency.
Best for: Buyers who value a premium interior, cutting-edge technology, and a comfortable ride, especially those interested in the class-leading C300e plug-in hybrid.
Not ideal for: Drivers who prioritise sporty handling, maximum interior and boot space, or those who want all-wheel drive without choosing a high-performance AMG model.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz C-Class | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.1% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW 3 Series | 5/5 | 4.3/5 | 36.6% | 4.5/5 |

| Jaguar XE | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 29.9% | 4.2/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the C-Class if: You want a refined executive car with a stunning, tech-forward interior and access to a class-leading plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Consider alternatives if: Your top priority is sporty handling, maximum passenger and boot space, or you need all-wheel drive on a non-performance model.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a deeply impressive executive car, defined by its high-quality cabin and advanced technology. The C300e plug-in hybrid version is a standout choice thanks to its exceptional electric range. However, it faces stiff competition from the sharper-driving BMW 3 Series and more spacious Audi A4, placing it as a luxurious and comfortable choice that doesn't lead the class in every area.

Excellent value for the money drives with no issues in really good all round condition
This car has lots of good features, but the navigation screen looks somewhat stuck on, unlike the E-class and there should be manual versions
Excellent car fully loaded drives amazing great on fuel and a great looking car
Nice looking car but web search brings up lots of common problems that are expensive to get repaired, decided to go with another manufacturer
