Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Serene and soothing comfort | Expensive for private buyers |
| Broad range of engine options | Bewildering array of trims and options |
| Traditional feel with high-tech equipment | E450 d is astonishingly expensive |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2024-present) is a traditional executive saloon that sits between the smaller C-Class and larger S-Class limousine. It combines serene comfort with cutting-edge technology, offering an impressive range of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The E-Class features a sophisticated interior with high-grade materials, excellent seat adjustability and optional MBUX Superscreen technology. Boot space is generous, with 370 litres in the hybrid saloon and 460 litres in the hybrid estate, whilst non-hybrid models offer 540 or 615 litres respectively.
The E-Class excels at delivering a calm, refined driving experience with light yet precise steering and adaptive dampers that provide long-legged comfort. The plug-in hybrid variants offer an impressive electric range of around 70 miles, making them particularly attractive for company car users with low BiK tax costs. Whilst not as sporty as the BMW 5 Series, the E-Class differentiates itself through its traditional, stately feel and varied engine options. However, list prices are high, and the range can be confusing with its numerous trim levels and options.
Best for: Company car users seeking plug-in hybrid efficiency, those prioritising comfort and refinement over sportiness, and buyers who value traditional executive car appeal with modern technology.
Not ideal for: Private buyers on a budget, those seeking the sportiest handling dynamics, or buyers who prefer simpler, less complex model ranges.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercedes-Benz E-Class | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.6% | 4.4/5 |
| BMW 5 Series | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 33.4% | 4.5/5 |

| Lexus ES | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 32.2% | 4.1/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the E-Class if: You're a company car user seeking plug-in hybrid efficiency, prioritise comfort and refinement over sportiness, or value traditional executive appeal with modern technology.
Consider alternatives if: You're a private buyer on a budget, seeking the sportiest handling dynamics, or prefer simpler, less complex model ranges.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2024-present) is a highly competitive executive saloon that differentiates itself through its serene comfort, broad engine range and traditional, stately feel. Whilst the BMW 5 Series edges ahead with sportier handling and the Audi A6 offers comparable user satisfaction, the E-Class excels for those prioritising refinement and long-range plug-in hybrid efficiency. The Lexus ES is smaller and cheaper but lacks the E-Class's engine variety. For company car users, the E-Class PHEV variants make compelling sense with their low BiK tax costs and impressive electric range. However, high list prices and a bewildering array of trims and options may deter private buyers seeking straightforward value.

Overall, the E-Class is noted as a reliable and stylish choice, although a few have mentioned concerns about fuel mileage in earlier models.

What people say
Nice specification with panoramic roof and Burmester sound system, and the mileage is lower than average. However, the vehicle appears to have partial leather rather than full Nappa leather, which is often expected on Premium Plus models. Considering similar 2018–2019 E-Class Coupes currently advertised in the £18,000–£19,000 range, the price still feels slightly high. Overall a good car, but not necessarily the best value compared with other options on the market.
The car drives just as it should and I am glad I got it
The car is an E240, petrol, 2.6 6 litre Auto. Great looking car for its age, beautiful profile. Interior is classically designed, and no cup holders...I dont think they were thought of back then. Quality leather, nice unassuming wood trim, comfortable seats, and as an auto gears have seamless shift. It feels superbly put together, everything is solid, quality plastics too. Huge boot. Lovely to drive, smooth, quiet. Had it 5 years, enjoyed every minute of my ownership. New in 2005 it was £33,000, I bought it for £4000....you get an awful lot of car for that. Highly recommended.
Probably the best Mercedes in all it’s classes, not too small and not to big; just perfect.
This is an amazingly smooth and quiet ride with plenty of power when needed, but great on fuel also.
