Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (2023-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High quality cabin | Expensive, even by the standards of the class |
| Well equipped as standard | Adaptive cruise control costs extra |
| PHEV has huge electric-only range | PHEV versions have a small boot |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLC (2023-present) is a sophisticated five-seat, mid-sized premium SUV, positioned between the GLA and GLE. This third-generation model features subtle styling updates but significant mechanical enhancements, built on an updated platform that increases length and rigidity for improved interior space. It offers a range of powertrains, including three 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) options and impressive plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) with up to 80 miles of electric-only range, plus high-performance AMG variants.
The GLC boasts a seriously classy and spacious cabin with high-quality materials and excellent interior design, making it comfortable for both front and rear passengers. While MHEV models offer generous boot space (600-620 litres), PHEV versions have a reduced capacity (470 litres) due to battery placement. The driving experience is refined, particularly in electric mode, though PHEV models can feel heavy. Standard equipment is generous, but advanced features like adaptive cruise control are often optional, impacting overall value for private buyers. PHEV models are particularly compelling for company car drivers due to favourable tax bands.
Best for: Company car drivers (PHEV), those seeking a refined, comfortable, and practical family SUV with class-leading plug-in hybrid technology, and buyers who value a high-quality, spacious interior.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious private buyers, those who demand adaptive cruise control as standard on all trims, or those needing maximum boot space in PHEV variants.

The Verdict
You should buy the GLC if: You're a company car driver seeking an executive PHEV SUV with an impressive electric range, or a private buyer prioritising a refined, comfortable, and practical family SUV with a high-quality interior.
Consider alternatives if: You are on a strict budget, require adaptive cruise control as standard on lower trims, or need maximum boot space in a PHEV model.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLC (2023-present) stands as a highly competitive premium SUV, particularly for its class-leading plug-in hybrid technology and luxurious, spacious interior. While its high list price and optional adaptive cruise control can be drawbacks for private buyers, its refinement, comfort, and strong residual values make it a compelling choice. For company car drivers, the GLC PHEV is exceptionally attractive due to its favourable tax benefits. It offers a strong blend of practicality and prestige, holding its own against rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60.

(11 reviews)Love this model! Better than the GLE. Quality interior compared to other equivalent manufacturers.
The model I chose being a GLC 250D Premium Plus AMG Line has a good luxury specification and performance. For an SUV this is a reasonably economical vehicle. 2016 makes it also car road tax efficient. Also the car insurance is not astronomical.
