The model I chose being a GLC 250D Premium Plus AMG Line has a good luxury specification and performance. For an SUV this is a reasonably economical vehicle. 2016 makes it also car road tax efficient. Also the car insurance is not astronomical.

Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (2015-2022) is a premium mid-sized SUV that offers something for every high-end customer. Available in both SUV and Coupe body styles, it combines stylish design with practical space, featuring a 550-litre boot (1,600 litres with rear seats folded) and luxurious, well-built interiors. The GLC came with a comprehensive range of engines, from frugal 2.1-litre diesels to potent AMG V8s, alongside plug-in hybrid options introduced later in the generation. All models feature all-wheel drive (4Matic) and a nine-speed automatic gearbox, delivering refined, comfort-focused driving dynamics with excellent build quality throughout.
The 2019 facelift introduced the excellent MBUX infotainment system with voice control, LED lighting, and enhanced technology features. Pre-facelift models offered optional air suspension for supreme comfort, whilst post-facelift cars focused on traditional spring and damper setups. Diesel engines offer the best fuel economy and lower running costs, with real-world figures around 40-50mpg. Service costs are moderate at £300-£400 per visit, though reliability concerns have been reported by some owners. The GLC remains new enough to feel relevant whilst offering diverse powertrain choices, making it an excellent choice for buyers seeking premium SUV experience with practicality and style.
Best for: Buyers seeking a premium, stylish, and practical SUV with refined driving dynamics, those prioritising comfort and cabin quality, and customers wanting diverse engine options including hybrid powertrains.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers concerned about reliability, those seeking the sportiest handling (BMW X3), or drivers wanting the lowest running costs (Audi Q5).

The Verdict
You should buy the GLC if: You're seeking a premium, stylish, and practical SUV with refined driving dynamics, prioritising comfort and cabin quality, or wanting diverse engine options including hybrid powertrains.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious and concerned about reliability, seeking the sportiest handling, or wanting the lowest running costs available in this segment.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (2015-2022) is a strong contender in the premium mid-sized SUV market, offering exceptional cabin quality, refinement, and practicality. Whilst the BMW X3 provides superior driving dynamics and the Audi Q5 delivers better value, the GLC excels in luxury and comfort. The Jaguar F-Pace offers a more dynamic alternative with excellent user ratings. The GLC's diverse powertrain options, from efficient diesels to potent AMGs and plug-in hybrids, make it versatile for various needs. However, potential reliability concerns warrant careful inspection and full service history verification before purchase. For buyers prioritising premium feel and comfort over sportiness, the GLC remains an excellent choice.
