Mercedes-Benz GLC Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| High-quality interior | Expensive, even by the standards of the class |
| Well equipped as standard | Adaptive cruise control costs extra |
| PHEV has huge electric-only range | PHEV versions have a small boot |
Quick Summary
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a consummate family SUV that combines refinement, comfort and class with impressive practicality. This mid-sized premium SUV sits between the smaller GLA and larger GLE, offering five seats and a spacious interior with high-quality materials and thoughtful design. The third-generation model is 60mm longer than its predecessor, improving interior space, and every version is electrified in some way. Boot space in mild-hybrid models reaches 620 litres, making it one of the most spacious in its class, though plug-in hybrids sacrifice some of this for their larger battery packs.
The plug-in hybrid variants are particularly appealing, offering up to 78 miles of electric-only range thanks to a 25.3kWh battery, making them genuinely usable as electric cars for daily journeys. The GLC 300e petrol PHEV and GLC 300de diesel PHEV both deliver strong performance whilst maintaining excellent efficiency. For company car drivers, the PHEVs make enormous sense, combining strong performance with very low tax liabilities. The GLC remains highly desirable for private buyers too, though list prices are on the high side. With an upmarket interior, impressive technology and one of the slickest infotainment systems in the class, it's one of the most rounded premium SUVs available.
Best for: Premium SUV buyers seeking refinement, comfort and class, company car drivers (especially PHEV variants), and those prioritising interior quality and technology.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or drivers wanting adaptive cruise control as standard.

The Verdict
You should buy the GLC if: You're seeking a premium SUV with refinement, comfort and class, you're a company car driver (especially PHEV variants), or you prioritise interior quality and technology.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, seeking the sharpest handling dynamics, or require adaptive cruise control as standard on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Mercedes-Benz GLC is one of the most rounded premium SUVs available, offering exceptional interior quality, impressive technology and strong standard equipment. Whilst it commands higher list prices than rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3, its upmarket feel, refined driving experience and class-leading plug-in hybrid technology justify the premium for many buyers. The GLC PHEVs are particularly compelling for company car drivers, offering excellent tax efficiency alongside genuine electric range. For private buyers seeking a nearly-new example at the right price, the GLC delivers outstanding comfort and refinement, though rivals can offer similar space and performance for less money.

5 Overall rating
(3 reviews)I'm happy with the car features. The car is good value for the mileage.
Love this model! Better than the GLE. Quality interior compared to other equivalent manufacturers.
The model I chose being a GLC 250D Premium Plus AMG Line has a good luxury specification and performance. For an SUV this is a reasonably economical vehicle. 2016 makes it also car road tax efficient. Also the car insurance is not astronomical.
