Mitsubishi L200 (2026) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Looks like good value	Some ergonomic issues
Very roomy cabin	Noisy diesel engine
Decent to drive	Dated infotainment

Quick Summary

The Mitsubishi L200 Series 7 marks the welcome return of this legendary pick-up truck to UK shores after a five-year absence. Offered exclusively with a 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox and standard four-wheel drive, the L200 delivers impressive practicality with a substantial loadbed and payload capacity exceeding one tonne. The double-cab configuration provides genuinely spacious rear seating for three adults, whilst the cabin combines durable hard plastics with quality touches like stitched leather on higher trims. With a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and sophisticated off-road capabilities, particularly in the Barbarian trim's Super Select 4WD-II system, the L200 handles both commercial and lifestyle demands effectively.

At around £36,000 for the Titan and £40,000 for the Barbarian, the L200 offers compelling value against rivals like the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok. Fuel economy of 33.3mpg is competitive for the class, and VAT recovery remains possible for registered businesses. However, the old-school diesel engine is notably loud and clattery, whilst the infotainment system suffers from confusing menu layouts and dated graphics. Some ergonomic quirks and the characteristic pick-up truck ride characteristics may also prove frustrating for those seeking SUV-like refinement.

Best for: Commercial users and lifestyle buyers seeking a capable, spacious pick-up truck with strong value proposition and sophisticated off-road credentials.

Not ideal for: Those prioritising engine refinement, intuitive infotainment systems, or car-like driving dynamics and comfort.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the L200 if: You're seeking a capable, spacious pick-up truck with strong value, sophisticated off-road credentials, and commercial versatility.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engine refinement, intuitive infotainment systems, or car-like driving dynamics and comfort over practicality.

Competitive Position: The Mitsubishi L200 returns to the UK market as a genuinely competitive proposition in the pick-up truck segment. Whilst it doesn't quite match the Ford Ranger's car-like refinement or the Toyota Hilux's legendary durability reputation, the L200 offers excellent value and impressive practicality. Its spacious cabin, capable off-road systems, and competitive pricing make it a strong contender against the Volkswagen Amarok and other rivals. The main drawbacks—engine noise and dated infotainment—are relatively minor compromises for buyers prioritising capability and value over premium refinement.
