Nissan Navara (2014-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Large load bed and generous payload | Apple CarPlay and Android Auto weren't available before 2019 facelift |
| More car-like to drive than most pick-ups | The SsangYong Musso has a longer warranty |
| Punchy and fuel-efficient diesel engine | Not as wieldy as a conventional SUV |
Quick Summary
The Nissan Navara (2014-2022) is a popular pick-up truck that stands out in a competitive market against rivals like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. It is available in practical king-cab and double-cab body styles, excelling in versatility with a class-leading payload on most models and a strong towing capacity of 3,500kg. This makes it a formidable workhorse for a wide range of tasks.
Unlike most competitors that use traditional leaf springs, the Navara features coil-spring rear suspension, giving it a more comfortable and car-like ride. It’s powered by a punchy and notably fuel-efficient 2.3-litre diesel engine, which helps keep running costs low, further aided by long service intervals. With a four-star Euro NCAP safety rating and good equipment levels on higher trims, the Navara is a capable, cost-effective, and comfortable all-rounder on the used market.
Best for: Buyers needing a versatile work vehicle with excellent payload and towing capacity, drivers wanting a more comfortable ride than a typical pick-up, and those prioritising low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers who expect the handling and refinement of a passenger SUV, or tech-focused buyers looking at pre-2019 models, which lack modern smartphone integration.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

| Volkswagen Amarok | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 28.2% | 4.3/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Navara if: You need a versatile work vehicle with an excellent payload and towing capacity, want a more comfortable ride than a typical pick-up, or prioritise low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You expect the handling and refinement of a passenger SUV or want the latest infotainment features on a model made before 2019.
Competitive Position: The Nissan Navara is a top contender in the used pick-up segment, offering a compelling blend of low running costs, high practicality, and a uniquely car-like driving experience. While it may not have the outright power of V6 rivals like the VW Amarok, its fuel-efficient engine, generous payload, and comfortable ride make it an extremely well-rounded and sensible choice for both work and daily use.

4.1 Overall rating
(20 reviews)Pity it is not available new. 3.5 tonnes towing, in a smaller build size, like the D21 had, would sell well with farmers, the one I have purchased is plenty big enough, bordering on clumsy, but there are not many options, Ford are unreliable engines, Toyota out priced, Isuzu unreliable and expensive repairs, will not have another!
Very nice tidy truck, lovely sounding engine and interior is spotless
Very nice vehicle only downside is it’s thirst issue
Fantastic vehicle even better than the description, excellent value , fully loaded and drives brilliantly
I think the engine is good for 160,000 after that I think it could fail and then it would cost a hefty sum to fix it. Apart from that it’s a good vehicle and quite luxurious for a pickup truck. I would have another one as long as I acquired it with low mileage.
