Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Simple to drive and easy to park Lots of wind and road noise at speed
Very cheap to buy and run Jerky 2-Tronic automatic
Perky looks Entry-level cars are very basic

Quick Summary

The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an entry-level city car that prioritises low running costs and reliability over frills. Sharing its robust engine and transmission with the Toyota Aygo, the 107 is a dependable small car that rarely lets you down. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for urban driving, with light steering and nippy handling perfect for navigating tight spaces. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces 68bhp, delivering surprising performance for such a modest power output, though engine noise is noticeable at higher revs.

Running costs are exceptionally low, with official fuel economy of 61.4mpg (later cars achieving 65mpg) and real-world returns easily exceeding 50mpg. Vehicle excise duty is minimal at no more than £30 annually, whilst insurance groupings range from 3 to 5 out of 50, making it particularly appealing to younger drivers. Servicing is affordable, with interim services costing less than £100 at a Peugeot main dealer. However, practicality is limited, with just 139-litres of boot space, no glove box, and cramped rear seating. The flopped seatbacks increase capacity to 751-litres but don't fold flat, and wind and road noise at motorway speeds can be intrusive.

Best for: Budget-conscious city drivers, first-time car buyers, those seeking minimal running costs, and drivers who prioritise easy parking and manoeuvrability.

Not ideal for: Families needing spacious seating or boot space, motorway commuters sensitive to noise, or buyers requiring modern infotainment systems as standard.

The Verdict

You should buy the 107 if: You're a budget-conscious city driver, a first-time car buyer, seeking minimal running costs, or prioritising easy parking and manoeuvrability.

Consider alternatives if: You need spacious seating or boot space, frequently drive on motorways, are sensitive to noise, or require modern infotainment systems as standard.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers seeking a simple, reliable city car with minimal running costs. Whilst the Skoda Citigo offers superior expert ratings and the Fiat 500 boasts stronger user appeal, the 107 remains highly competitive for those prioritising affordability and ease of use. Its shared Toyota engineering ensures dependability, and its low purchase price, minimal road tax, and cheap insurance make it an exceptionally sensible choice for first-time buyers and urban commuters. The 107 may lack the style of the Fiat 500 or the refinement of the Skoda Citigo, but it delivers honest, unpretentious motoring at an unbeatable price.

Being 84 and somewhat disabled, I have reduced my driving considerably. I like the simplicity and smallness of the Peugeot 107. I need the 5-door version because I cannot lift the shopping out of the boot. I had no longer use the keypad magic, preferring a manual lock.
