Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Simple to drive and easy to park	Lots of wind and road noise at speed
Very cheap to buy and run	Jerky 2-Tronic automatic
Perky looks	Entry-level cars are very basic

Quick Summary

The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an entry-level city car that prioritises low running costs and reliability over frills. Sharing its robust engine and transmission with the Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1, the 107 is a dependable small car that rarely lets you down. Its compact dimensions make it ideal for urban driving, with light steering and nippy handling that make parking and manoeuvring effortless. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine produces 68bhp, which is adequate for city driving despite creating considerable mechanical noise.

Running costs are exceptionally low, with official fuel economy of 61.4mpg (later models achieving 65mpg) and real-world returns easily exceeding 50mpg. Vehicle excise duty is minimal at no more than £30, and insurance groupings range from 3 to 5 out of 50, making it particularly appealing to younger drivers. Servicing is affordable and straightforward, with most parts easily accessible and inexpensive. However, practicality is limited—there's no glove box, rear seat space is tight, and the 139-litre boot is tiny. Wind and road noise at motorway speeds can be intrusive, and the 2-Tronic automatic transmission is jerky. Entry-level models are very basic, so later trims with air-conditioning and Bluetooth are preferable.

Best for: Budget-conscious drivers, first-time car buyers, urban commuters, and those prioritising low running costs and easy manoeuvrability.

Not ideal for: Families needing practicality, motorway commuters sensitive to noise, or buyers requiring a spacious boot and rear seating.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the 107 if: You're a budget-conscious driver, first-time car buyer, urban commuter, or prioritising low running costs and easy manoeuvrability.

Consider alternatives if: You need practicality, are sensitive to motorway noise, or require a spacious boot and rear seating.

Competitive Position: The Peugeot 107 (2005-2014) is an excellent budget city car, offering exceptional value and minimal running costs. However, it faces stiff competition from the Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii, which both score higher on CarGurus ratings and offer better overall refinement. The Ford Fiesta Mk6, whilst more expensive, provides superior driving dynamics and practicality. The 107 remains the most affordable option and is ideal for those prioritising economy and simplicity over comfort and features, though its limited practicality and noise levels may deter those seeking a more rounded proposition.
