Excellent build quality and a pleasure to drive. Lots of great features like the 3D Dash display, nicely laid out Plenty of performance from the relatively small engine. 99 positives 1 negative is that the foot pedals are a little too close together. All in all a brilliant little car

This is my 2nd 208. I have a 2018 208gtlne as well. I have driven lots of cars and vans over the last 40 years including Teslas and hybrids. Quite simply the 208 is the best used medium size hatchback on the market. The new 208 is even better.

Quick Summary
The Peugeot 208 is a stylish and appealing supermini that has long been a popular choice in its class. The latest generation, originally launched in 2019 and facelifted in late 2023, continues to attract buyers with its distinctive Gallic design, agile handling characteristics, and affordable running costs. It offers a practical 352-litre boot (309 litres in electric versions) and comes with a comprehensive range of powertrains, including a turbocharged petrol engine, mild-hybrid options, and two battery-electric variants with ranges up to 268 miles. The interior features Peugeot's distinctive i-Cockpit design with a small steering wheel and elevated instrument display, along with an attractive, modern cabin with soft-touch materials and piano-key-style controls.
Whilst the 208 delivers on style and efficiency, it does have some limitations. The driving experience, whilst adequate, lacks the polish and engagement of some rivals like the Ford Fiesta. Practicality is constrained by limited rear legroom and small rear door openings, making it less suitable for families with tall passengers. The ride can feel firm on larger wheels, and some powertrains exhibit lazy throttle response. Running costs are generally reasonable, though reliability ratings for the 208 specifically lag behind the broader Peugeot brand average. Nevertheless, for buyers prioritising style, modern technology, and an electric option, the 208 remains a convincing choice in the competitive supermini sector.
Best for: Style-conscious buyers seeking a modern, well-equipped supermini with electric options, and those valuing affordable running costs and contemporary design.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling dynamics, families needing spacious rear accommodation, or those seeking the most reliable supermini in its class.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 208 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 33.3% | 4.3/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.6% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 35.3% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 34.1% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 208 if: You prioritise style and modern design, seek a well-equipped supermini with electric options, or value affordable running costs and contemporary technology.
Consider alternatives if: You want engaging handling dynamics, require spacious rear accommodation for tall passengers, or prioritise proven reliability and durability.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 208 is a stylish and appealing contender in the supermini market, offering distinctive design, modern technology, and a comprehensive range of powertrains including an impressive electric option. Whilst it matches rivals like the Renault Clio on overall rating, it falls slightly behind the Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Yaris for expert assessment. The 208's key strengths lie in its visual appeal and electric credentials, but buyers seeking the finest handling should consider the Ford Fiesta, and those prioritising reliability may prefer the Toyota Yaris. For style-conscious buyers willing to compromise slightly on engagement and practicality, the 208 remains a convincing and modern choice.
