Excellent build quality and a pleasure to drive. Lots of great features like the 3D Dash display, nicely laid out Plenty of performance from the relatively small engine. 99 positives 1 negative is that the foot pedals are a little too close together. All in all a brilliant little car

This is my 2nd 208. I have a 2018 208gtlne as well. I have driven lots of cars and vans over the last 40 years including Teslas and hybrids. Quite simply the 208 is the best used medium size hatchback on the market. The new 208 is even better.

Peugeot 208 Pros and Cons

Quick Summary
The Peugeot 208 is a stylish and appealing supermini that has long been a popular choice in its class. The latest generation, facelifted in late 2023, continues to impress with its sharp Gallic design, swanky interior, and agile driving manners. It offers a choice of powertrains including a turbocharged petrol engine, mild-hybrid options, and two battery-electric variants. The 208 provides a 352-litre boot (309 litres in the EV) and comes well-equipped across all trim levels, from Style through to GT Premium, with modern infotainment and comfort features.
Running costs are generally affordable, though reliability ratings for the 208 specifically lag behind the Peugeot brand average. The warranty offering is modest on petrol models but more generous on electric versions. Whilst the 208 feels its age in some areas—particularly ride-and-handling refinement and some powertrain characteristics—it remains a convincing choice for buyers seeking a stylish, well-equipped small car with decent practicality and low running costs. The unique i-Cockpit driving position may feel unusual initially, but most drivers adapt well to it.
Best for: Style-conscious buyers seeking a fashionable supermini, those wanting a well-equipped small car with modern technology, and drivers interested in an affordable electric vehicle option (e-208).
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising engaging driving dynamics, those requiring maximum rear-seat space, drivers seeking the most reliable supermini, or those wanting the lowest purchase price in the segment.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peugeot 208 | 3/5 | 5.0/5 | 43.5% | 4.3/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 38.5% | 4.3/5 |
| Volkswagen Polo | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 37.2% | 4.5/5 |
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 35.1% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the 208 if: You prioritise style and modern design, seek a well-equipped supermini with good technology, or are interested in an affordable electric vehicle option.
Consider alternatives if: You want the most engaging driving dynamics, require maximum rear-seat space, prioritise proven reliability, or are seeking the lowest purchase price in the segment.
Competitive Position: The Peugeot 208 is a strong contender in the supermini market, offering distinctive styling, impressive equipment levels, and a compelling electric option. Whilst it trails the Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Yaris in expert ratings and overall CarGurus scores, it matches the Renault Clio and boasts the highest user rating of the group. The 208's main appeal lies in its design flair and technology, though buyers should be aware that it doesn't match rivals for driving engagement or long-term reliability. For style-conscious buyers willing to prioritise aesthetics and features over ultimate practicality or driving dynamics, the 208 remains an appealing and convincing choice.
