Porsche Panamera (2024) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Gorgeous interior	Not cheap to buy or run
PHEVs can be very affordable to fuel	Others have more space in the back
Great balance of comfort and fun	Complex options

Quick Summary

The Porsche Panamera is a luxury four-door sports-GT that blends refinement, comfort and handling poise in a way that's verging on wizardry. This third-generation model, launched in 2024, offers a range starting with a 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 available with rear- or four-wheel drive, progressing to a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 GTS, and plug-in hybrid variants with 50-60 miles of electric range. The range-topping Turbo S E-Hybrid delivers 771bhp and 0-62mph in around 3.0 seconds. Despite its 5.0-metre length, the Panamera remains thrilling to drive whilst maintaining luxury and practicality with a 500-litre boot and beautifully appointed interior.

The Panamera excels as a luxury tourer with exceptional comfort, featuring optional 14-way adjustable sports seats with massage functions and four-zone climate control. Air suspension comes as standard, with optional Porsche Active Ride and rear-axle steering enhancing both comfort and manoeuvrability. However, ownership costs are substantial—servicing, tyres and insurance are expensive, and depreciation is steep. The extensive options list can significantly impact both driving characteristics and final cost. For those prioritising luxury, refinement and driving engagement over practicality, the Panamera is unrivalled amongst GT cars.

Best for: Affluent buyers seeking a luxury sports-GT with exceptional comfort and handling, those valuing refinement and performance, and drivers willing to invest in premium ownership costs.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those requiring maximum rear-seat space, or drivers seeking lower running costs and depreciation rates.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Panamera if: You seek a luxury sports-GT with exceptional comfort and handling, value refinement and performance, and are willing to invest in premium ownership costs.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum rear-seat space, prioritise lower running costs and depreciation, or are budget-conscious about ownership expenses.

Competitive Position: The Porsche Panamera stands apart as a unique luxury sports-GT, offering a compelling blend of refinement, comfort and driving engagement that rivals cannot match. Whilst the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8 offer greater traditional luxury and rear-seat space, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe provides more practicality, the Panamera's distinctive character and handling poise make it the superior choice for those prioritising driving enjoyment alongside luxury. It's a car that justifies its premium positioning through its comprehensive capability and sheer joy to drive and live with.
