Skoda Kodiaq (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Exceptional interior space and practicality	Interior quality feels less premium than the previous model
Available in petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid configurations	Ride comfort is compromised at low speeds, especially on larger wheels
Competitive pricing for a seven-seater SUV	Plug-in hybrid not available with seven seats

Quick Summary

The Skoda Kodiaq (2024-present) is a highly practical and spacious large family SUV that excels in delivering comfort, value, and versatility. Now in its second generation, it offers petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the option of five or seven seats. The 1.5-litre TSI petrol delivers around 40mpg in mixed driving, whilst the 2.0-litre TDI diesel achieves real-world 46mpg, making it ideal for longer journeys. The plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, offering approximately 60 miles of electric-only range and supporting 50kW rapid charging. Boot space is generous, with five-seater models offering up to 910 litres and seven-seater versions providing 845 litres with five seats in place.

The Kodiaq is generally comfortable on the road, particularly at higher speeds, with light and predictable steering that makes it easy to place. However, the ride can feel a touch firm at low speeds, especially on larger wheels, though the optional adaptive suspension (DCC) significantly improves comfort. The range-topping vRS model features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 261bhp, completing 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds. Pricing starts under £40,000, though most versions exceed this threshold, qualifying for premium car tax. Entry-level SE models are well equipped with LED headlights, three-zone climate control, and heated seats, whilst higher trims add Matrix LED headlights, powered seats, and adaptive suspension.

Best for: Families needing spacious, practical seven-seater accommodation, those seeking multiple powertrain options including plug-in hybrid technology, and buyers prioritising value and versatility in a large SUV.

Not ideal for: Those seeking premium interior materials comparable to rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan or Hyundai Santa Fe, drivers prioritising sporty handling characteristics, or those requiring plug-in hybrid capability with seven seats.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Kodiaq if: You need spacious, practical seven-seater accommodation, seek multiple powertrain options including plug-in hybrid technology, or prioritise value and versatility in a large SUV.

Consider alternatives if: You desire premium interior materials comparable to the Volkswagen Tiguan or Hyundai Santa Fe, prioritise sporty handling characteristics, or require plug-in hybrid capability with seven seats.

Competitive Position: The Skoda Kodiaq (2024-present) remains a highly competitive choice in the large family SUV segment, offering exceptional practicality, spaciousness, and excellent value. Whilst it may not quite match the premium feel of rivals such as the Volkswagen Tiguan or Hyundai Santa Fe, or the dynamic edge of sportier alternatives from BMW, the Kodiaq excels in delivering comfort, versatility, and competitive pricing. Its diverse powertrain options, including an efficient plug-in hybrid, and flexible seating configurations make it an outstanding choice for families seeking a practical and well-equipped SUV without premium pricing.
