Skoda Superb (2024-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Outstanding interior space and practicality	Interior design and quality don't match premium rivals
Well-equipped across all trims	A BMW 5 Series is more enjoyable to drive
Comfortable ride and very refined	Reduced boot space in the plug-in hybrid

Quick Summary

The Skoda Superb is one of the best-value large cars on the market, offering more space than premium-badged rivals at a significantly lower price. Available as both hatchback and estate, it delivers outstanding practicality with a 625-litre boot (hatchback) or 660-litre boot (estate), making it capable of handling everything from family luggage to larger items. The interior space for passengers is equally fantastic, with generous legroom and headroom for rear passengers. All versions are well-equipped with a 13.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.

The Superb prioritises comfort over dynamic handling, making it an accomplished all-rounder ideal for long-distance cruising thanks to excellent sound insulation and suspension that smooths out rough roads. Engine options include a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with mild hybrid delivering 148bhp and around 50mpg, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel available with 148bhp or 190bhp achieving around 55mpg, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol with 261bhp for performance-seekers, and a plug-in hybrid estate combining 1.5-litre petrol and electric motor for 201bhp with over 70 miles of electric range. All use a smooth DSG automatic transmission with no manual option available.

Best for: Families seeking comfort, space and value; long-distance drivers; those wanting more practicality than similarly priced SUVs; company car drivers (especially the plug-in hybrid for lower BiK tax).

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising premium interior design and quality; those seeking an exciting, dynamic driving experience; drivers needing maximum boot space in a plug-in hybrid model.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Superb if: You're seeking comfort, space and value; you regularly drive long distances; you want more practicality than similarly priced SUVs; or you're a company car driver looking for lower BiK tax rates.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise premium interior design and quality, seek an exciting and dynamic driving experience, or need maximum boot space in a plug-in hybrid model.

Competitive Position: The Skoda Superb stands out as the clear leader in this segment, offering the highest expert rating and the best value proposition. Whilst the Volkswagen Passat scores slightly higher with users and the Audi A6 Avant provides premium appeal, neither matches the Superb's combination of space, practicality, equipment and affordability. The Superb is an accomplished all-rounder that covers long distances with a level of comfort hard to find even in cars costing significantly more. For buyers prioritising value, space and comfort over premium badge appeal, the Superb is genuinely hard to beat.
