Suzuki Swift (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fun to drive | Not as cheap as it once was |
| Low running costs | Small boot for the supermini class |
| Well equipped as standard | Rivals offer more passenger space |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is the fourth generation of this supermini, known for its straightforward, petrol-powered offering with a single 1.2-litre mild-hybrid engine. Despite being marketed as all-new, it retains the same platform and dimensions as its predecessor, contributing to its low kerb weight. It aims for simplicity and low cost, positioning itself against rivals like the Dacia Sandero, Renault Clio, Vauxhall Corsa, and Skoda Fabia, though it is slightly smaller in both exterior and interior dimensions.
Boot space is 265 litres (expandable to 589 litres), which is smaller than rivals, but the cabin is adequate for four adults. All models feature an 82bhp 1.2-litre three-cylinder mild-hybrid engine, paired with either a five-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox, with an optional AllGrip all-wheel-drive system. The Swift offers a fun, agile driving experience with well-weighted steering, despite a firmer ride. Running costs are low, with official WLTP fuel economy up to 64.2mpg, and it comes extremely well-equipped even in its base Motion trim, including a 9.0-inch touchscreen and a full suite of safety systems. Insurance groupings can be surprisingly high, which might deter young drivers.
Best for: Drivers seeking a fun-to-drive, well-equipped supermini with low running costs and strong standard safety features.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising maximum boot space or rear passenger room, or young drivers concerned about potentially high insurance costs.

The Verdict
You should buy the Swift if: You're looking for a fun-to-drive, well-equipped, and economical supermini with strong standard safety features.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space or rear passenger room, or if you're a young driver concerned about potentially high insurance premiums.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is a compelling option in the supermini segment, offering a blend of agile handling, low running costs, and impressive standard equipment. While its boot and rear passenger space are smaller than some rivals, and insurance costs can be a drawback for certain buyers, its engaging driving dynamics and value-packed trims make it a strong contender, especially for those who prioritise a fun and efficient urban car.

(15 reviews)Fantastic small car, I would compare it to the mini but it is better. Great all round vision, well balanced & great spec.
Very stable car! Easy to drive and is actually pretty powerful, would defo recommend as a 1st time car
Great nippy car lovely to drive, good features, great on fuel
Good reliable and economical. Feels bigger inside than it looks from the outside.
Good little runner, very nippy. The car itself could have been vacuumed and cleaned inside, would have paid a bit more if it was. One or two small things need to be looked at, as it stands Im happy with it. Hope it gets me to Ireland and back, wait and see.
