Suzuki Swift (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Fun to drive | Not as cheap as it once was |
| Low running costs | Small boot for the supermini class |
| Well equipped as standard | Rivals offer more passenger space |
Quick Summary
The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is a straightforward, petrol-powered supermini offering genuine driving enjoyment combined with low running costs and comprehensive standard equipment. Now in its fourth generation, the Swift uses the same platform as its predecessor but benefits from a refreshed design and improved infotainment system. Weighing just 949kg to 1,037kg depending on specification, its lightweight construction contributes to impressive fuel economy of around 64.2mpg officially, with real-world figures consistently above 52mpg. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology produces 82bhp and delivers a surprisingly engaging driving experience, with a slick manual gearbox or CVT automatic option available.
Available in two well-equipped trims—Motion and Ultra—the Swift comes with heated seats, air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen with integrated satnav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The ride is firm, contributing to agile handling and direct steering that make this a genuinely fun car to drive. However, the 265-litre boot is smaller than rivals, and insurance groupings of 25-28 are surprisingly high for an 82bhp supermini. An all-wheel-drive AllGrip option is available on the Ultra trim with manual transmission. The Swift represents an excellent choice for those prioritising driving dynamics and low running costs over maximum interior space.
Best for: Drivers seeking an engaging, fun-to-drive supermini with low running costs, comprehensive standard equipment, and excellent fuel economy; those coming from a Ford Fiesta will find it familiar in terms of space.
Not ideal for: Buyers requiring maximum boot space, young drivers concerned about insurance costs, or those needing a no-frills budget entry-level model.

The Verdict
You should buy the Swift if: You're seeking an engaging, fun-to-drive supermini with low running costs, comprehensive standard equipment, and excellent fuel economy; or if you're coming from a Ford Fiesta and want a familiar driving experience.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum boot space, are concerned about insurance costs, or need a no-frills budget entry-level model.
Competitive Position: The Suzuki Swift (2024-present) is an excellent choice in the supermini market, offering superior driving dynamics and standard equipment compared to rivals. Whilst the Skoda Fabia provides more passenger space and the Dacia Sandero undercuts on price, the Swift's combination of engaging handling, low running costs, and comprehensive features make it a standout proposition. It's particularly appealing for drivers who prioritise driving enjoyment and fuel efficiency over maximum interior room. The Swift should genuinely be in your top-three choices when considering a new supermini.

(15 reviews)Fantastic small car, I would compare it to the mini but it is better. Great all round vision, well balanced & great spec.
Very stable car! Easy to drive and is actually pretty powerful, would defo recommend as a 1st time car
Great nippy car lovely to drive, good features, great on fuel
Good reliable and economical. Feels bigger inside than it looks from the outside.
Good little runner, very nippy. The car itself could have been vacuumed and cleaned inside, would have paid a bit more if it was. One or two small things need to be looked at, as it stands Im happy with it. Hope it gets me to Ireland and back, wait and see.
