Absolutely fell in love with this car the moment I saw it on your website. Previously had an Aygo , but prefer this model. The colour is stunning with the black roof and black alloys.

Toyota Aygo (2014-2022) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Excellent reliability, as you'd expect of a Toyota | Noisy on the motorway |
| Very economical to fuel and inexpensive to run | So-so Euro NCAP safety rating |
| Easy to drive and park | Small boot, even for a city car |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Aygo (2014-2022), the second-generation model, is a compact, efficient, and reliable city car that competes with the Fiat 500, Volkswagen Up, and Skoda Citigo. It retains the strengths of its predecessor, including a compact footprint and low running costs, whilst adding more playful exterior styling and modern features. The Aygo shares its underpinnings with the Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108. Available in three-door and five-door versions, the range was later slimmed to just the five-door model. In 2024, CarGurus named the Aygo as the best used car for new drivers following a survey of 1,000 UK drivers who had recently passed their test.
Powered by a single 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine producing 68bhp (later 71bhp), the Aygo accelerates from 0-62mph in around 14 seconds with a top speed of 99mph. It claims to average more than 60mpg and easily returns over 50mpg in real-world driving. An automated manual transmission is available, though the manual remains more popular. The Aygo excels in town driving with excellent manoeuvrability and comfort, but struggles on motorways where the engine becomes noisy and strained. Running costs are exceptionally low, with no VED on pre-April 2017 models, inexpensive servicing around £145, and small, affordable tyres. The timing chain engine eliminates costly belt replacement concerns. As a used car, it represents outstanding value for budget-conscious buyers seeking reliability and low ownership costs.
Best for: New drivers, city dwellers, budget-conscious buyers, and those prioritising reliability and low running costs.
Not ideal for: Drivers undertaking frequent motorway journeys, those needing a spacious boot, or buyers seeking premium badge appeal or superior driving dynamics.

The Verdict
You should buy the Aygo if: You're a new driver, city dweller, or budget-conscious buyer prioritising reliability and exceptionally low running costs.
Consider alternatives if: You undertake frequent motorway journeys, need a spacious boot, or seek premium badge appeal or superior driving dynamics.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Aygo (2014-2022) is a strong contender in the city car market, offering outstanding reliability, exceptional value, and very low running costs. Whilst it may not match rivals like the Volkswagen Up for premium feel or the Hyundai i10 for driving refinement, its Toyota badge, excellent fuel economy, and minimal maintenance costs make it an exceptionally sensible choice for budget-conscious buyers and new drivers. The Aygo's proven dependability and affordability position it as one of the most practical city cars available on the used market.
