Reliable car that feels safe and secure. Very spacious for a hatchback and a large boot.

It’s a nice looking car. But there are some annoying things about the Auris 1- the Arm rest in back seats is not that strong.2- it is just ok when driving it; it will get you from Point A to B but zero fun. However the Auris is the best hatchback car for me. And it is very reliable car.

Toyota Auris (2007-2012) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| A sensible, reliable buy | Dull driving experience |
| Economical 1.4-litre diesel | Lots of hard and scratchy plastics in the cabin |
| The hybrid works well around town | Anonymous looks, especially before the 2010 facelift |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Auris (2007-2012) is a straightforward family hatchback designed to replace the legendary Corolla. This practical five-door or three-door model offers reasonable interior space with 354 litres of boot capacity and comfortable seating for four adults. The range includes petrol engines (1.4-litre, 1.3-litre, and 1.6-litre), diesel options (1.4-litre, 2.0-litre, and 2.2-litre), and a petrol-electric hybrid. A facelift in 2010 brought styling tweaks and handling improvements, with the SR trim added to the range. Build quality is solid throughout, though the cabin features hard plastics and limited storage spaces.
The Auris prioritises sensible, head-based decision-making over emotional appeal, delivering reliable transport with minimal fuss. The 1.6-litre petrol is the most common engine, whilst the 1.4-litre diesel offers excellent fuel economy at 56.4mpg. The hybrid performs particularly well in urban driving. Running costs are reasonable, with Toyota specialists offering servicing from £115 to £225. Whilst the driving experience is uninspiring and handling is soft, the Auris provides dependable family transport at a very reasonable price with a choice of trims and engines.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking simple, reliable family transport, those prioritising practicality and sensible value, and drivers wanting economical diesel or hybrid options.
Not ideal for: Drivers seeking an engaging driving experience, premium cabin materials, or inspired design, or those wanting a car that puts a smile on your face behind the wheel.

| Toyota Auris | 3/5 | 4.6/5 | 30.3% | 4.0/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Auris if: You're seeking simple, reliable family transport, prioritising practicality and sensible value, or wanting economical diesel or hybrid options on a budget.
Consider alternatives if: You desire an engaging driving experience, premium cabin materials, inspired design, or a car that delivers an emotional connection behind the wheel.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Auris (2007-2012) is a solid contender in the used family hatchback market, offering excellent value and dependable transport. Whilst it lacks the driving dynamics of the Ford Focus, the premium appeal of the Volkswagen Golf, or the all-round refinement of the Vauxhall Astra, its affordability, reliability, and practical design make it an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers. The economical diesel and capable hybrid options further enhance its appeal for those prioritising running costs over driving pleasure.
