Toyota RAV4 (2019-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Hybrid power makes the RAV4 efficient and economical | Only available with five seats when some rivals have seven |
| Reliable, and comes with a long warranty | Wind and road noise at speed |
Quick Summary
The Toyota RAV4 (2019-present) is a practical and efficient hybrid SUV, highly regarded for its reliability and low running costs. This fifth-generation model is based on a new engineering platform and is exclusively available as a petrol-electric hybrid. It offers impressive interior quality, excellent seating position, and space for five adults, with 580 litres of boot space up to the parcel shelf, or up to 1,690 litres with the rear seats folded. The range comprises four straightforward trim levels—Icon, Design, Excel, and Dynamic—with even the basic Icon model extremely well equipped with LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
Performance is good, with the entry-level 215bhp front-wheel-drive model accelerating from 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds, whilst the all-wheel-drive version is slightly quicker. Running costs are impressively low thanks to the hybrid powertrain, with claimed figures of up to 50.4mpg for the two-wheel-drive model and 48.7mpg for the all-wheel-drive variant. Many owners report averaging well over 45mpg in real-world driving. Servicing is yearly or every 10,000 miles, with Toyota quoting £190 for an intermediate service and £340 for a full service. The RAV4 is a comfortable and easy car to drive with safe, secure handling, though it can occasionally be noisy on rough surfaces and at higher speeds.
Best for: Those seeking a hybrid SUV with low running costs, excellent equipment levels, and a comfortable cabin; families requiring a practical family SUV; and buyers valuing Toyota's reputation for reliability and long warranty.
Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking cheaper petrol or diesel alternatives; larger families needing seven seats; or those sensitive to wind and road noise at speed.

The Verdict
You should buy the RAV4 if: You're seeking a hybrid SUV with low running costs, excellent equipment levels, and a comfortable cabin; you're a family requiring a practical family SUV; or you value Toyota's reputation for reliability and long warranty.
Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious and seeking cheaper petrol or diesel alternatives, need seven seats, or are sensitive to wind and road noise at speed.
Competitive Position: The Toyota RAV4 (2019-present) is a strong contender in the hybrid SUV market, offering excellent reliability, low running costs, and impressive equipment levels. Whilst it is pricier than conventional petrol and diesel alternatives such as the Skoda Karoq or Kia Sportage, its hybrid powertrain delivers exceptional fuel economy and lower emissions. For those requiring seven seats, the Honda CR-V and Skoda Kodiaq offer more practical options. However, if five seats are sufficient and a hybrid powertrain is essential, the Toyota RAV4 is a commendable and dependable choice that combines comfort, practicality, and efficiency.

4.7 Overall rating
(40 reviews)I have had excellent value from my RAV4, no issues just regular maintenance stuff! Very pleased!
Great car to drive. Lots of safety features in a reasonably priced vehicle. Excellent for towing loads to 1900kg with this model/year (newer model has a lower towing capacity)
Great car, handles well in the snow. Cdplayer/radio definitely needs an update these days, plenty available online. Parts are fairly common place and reasonably priced. Easy car to work on. Insurance will write them off at the drop of a hat and the payout isnt enough for another similar model.
reliability, superb handling, economical ,smooth comfortable ride Honda CR5, Mitsubishi Shogun
Very good value for the money and clean car
