Quick Summary
The Toyota RAV4 (2019-present), also known as the XA50, is a highly regarded hybrid SUV celebrated for its reliability, low running costs, and practical design. This fifth-generation model introduces a new engineering platform and is exclusively available as a petrol-electric hybrid, offering improved handling, a high-quality interior, increased space, and a wide array of modern safety features. It provides a generous 580 litres of boot space, expanding to 1,690 litres with the rear seats folded.
Driving the RAV4 is a comfortable and easy experience, with good performance (0-62mph in 8.4s for FWD) and secure handling, though some wind and road noise can be present at higher speeds. The range is straightforward with four well-equipped trim levels, even the basic Icon model includes LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Running costs are impressively low, with two-wheel-drive models achieving around 50.4mpg (WLTP), and owners often reporting over 45mpg in real-world driving, making it an economical choice with low CO2 emissions.
Best for: Drivers seeking a reliable and practical hybrid SUV with low running costs, excellent equipment levels, a comfortable cabin, and suitable for families.
Not ideal for: Buyers needing a seven-seat option, those prioritising a lower initial cost over hybrid efficiency, or those sensitive to wind and road noise at speed.

4.7 Overall rating
(40 reviews)I have had excellent value from my RAV4, no issues just regular maintenance stuff! Very pleased!
Great car to drive. Lots of safety features in a reasonably priced vehicle. Excellent for towing loads to 1900kg with this model/year (newer model has a lower towing capacity)
Great car, handles well in the snow. Cdplayer/radio definitely needs an update these days, plenty available online. Parts are fairly common place and reasonably priced. Easy car to work on. Insurance will write them off at the drop of a hat and the payout isnt enough for another similar model.
reliability, superb handling, economical ,smooth comfortable ride Honda CR5, Mitsubishi Shogun
Very good value for the money and clean car
