Toyota Verso (2013-2018) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Clever and practical cabin | Short on luggage space if all seven seats are in place |
| Reliable, hassle-free family motoring | Dull looks, even for an MPV |
| Affordable used prices | Not all engines were available with an auto |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a practical and reliable seven-seater MPV designed for families prioritising functionality over fashion. This generation offers flexible seating arrangements with the middle row splitting three ways and sliding individually to balance legroom and boot space. Both rear rows fold completely flat, transforming the Verso into a spacious cargo carrier. Whilst the styling is admittedly uninspiring and the rearmost seats are cramped, the cabin is exceptionally durable and easy to clean, making it ideal for families with young children.
The Verso delivers solid, dependable motoring with adequate motorway performance, reasonable economy, and excellent body roll control. The 1.6-litre diesel offers the best fuel economy at around 62.8mpg, whilst petrol engines achieve 41.5-43.5mpg. Running costs are impressively low, with insurance groupings between 10-11 and Toyota's 5-Club offering 20% savings on servicing after five years. With a full five-star EuroNCAP rating and Toyota's legendary reliability, the Verso represents hassle-free family motoring that prioritises practicality and peace of mind over excitement.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, reliable seven-seater with flexible seating, affordable running costs, and bulletproof build quality; those prioritising functionality over aesthetics.
Not ideal for: Buyers wanting an exciting drive, premium styling, or maximum luggage space with all seats in use; those seeking a sharper, more fashionable MPV.

The Verdict
You should buy the Verso if: You're seeking a practical, reliable seven-seater with flexible seating, affordable running costs, and bulletproof build quality; families prioritising functionality over aesthetics.
Consider alternatives if: You want an exciting drive, premium styling, maximum luggage space with all seats in use, or a sharper, more fashionable MPV.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Verso (2013-2018) is a strong contender in the family MPV market, offering exceptional reliability and practical flexibility. Whilst rivals like the Ford C-Max and Volkswagen Touran score marginally higher on CarGurus ratings and offer better value deals, the Verso's Toyota pedigree, hassle-free ownership experience, and user satisfaction make it an excellent choice for families prioritising dependability and peace of mind. Its affordable used prices and low running costs provide outstanding value for budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious, versatile family car.
