Compact outside but remarkably spacious inside. I am 6 6 and can drive it comfortably. Reasonably well equipped and drives very nicely.

Good value for money. Reliable Toyota at a low price due to its older model status.

If you are budget conscious but still want a reliable car, this would be an ideal car for you. It is good for new drivers to practice on older cars like this to save on insurance as well as maintenance costs.

Nice little car, with good engine, nice steering, very smooth on the road. Toyota is Toyota. The minute I got in, I was comfortable.

Toyota Yaris (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Very economical, especially around town | The ride is on the firm side |
| Fantastic GR Yaris hot hatch | Not as practical as a Honda Jazz |
| Plenty of safety kit as standard | No satnav on pre-facelift models |
Quick Summary
The Toyota Yaris (2021-present) is a stylish and sensible supermini that swaps the staid styling of previous generations for a sports-car-esque nose, swooping side profile, and chunky rear. Beneath the striking five-door bodyshell, the Yaris is now hybrid-only, making it particularly economical. The latest 2024 facelift introduced upgraded interior technology and optional increased power from the 1.5-litre hybrid system in top-spec models. With 286 litres of boot space and well-screwed-together interior quality, the Yaris offers practicality and ease of use, though the infotainment system can be fiddly on pre-facelift models.
On the road, the Yaris feels stable and secure with a perky, responsive hybrid powertrain that's great for town driving. However, the firm ride means you'll feel imperfections in the tarmac. Light steering and CVT automatic gearbox make it easy to drive, though it lacks the fun factor of a Ford Fiesta or Mazda2. The standout GR Yaris is a homologation special with a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine producing 257bhp, four-wheel drive, and dazzling handling—one of the most exciting hot hatches available. Running costs are exceptional, with real-world fuel economy of 60-65mpg for the hybrid and favourable tax treatment. Toyota's reasonable servicing costs and timing chain (rather than belt) add to the appeal.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking excellent fuel economy, those wanting a stylish and sensible supermini, and enthusiasts looking for an affordable, thrilling hot hatch (GR Yaris).
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising a soft, comfortable ride, those needing maximum boot space, or buyers wanting satnav as standard on pre-facelift models.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Yaris | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 34.1% | 4.5/5 |
| Renault Clio | 3/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.6% | 4.3/5 |

| Honda Jazz | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 31.2% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Yaris if: You're seeking excellent fuel economy, a stylish and sensible supermini, or an affordable and thrilling hot hatch (GR Yaris).
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise a soft, comfortable ride, need maximum boot space, or require satnav as standard on all trims.
Competitive Position: The Toyota Yaris (2021-present) is a strong contender in the supermini market, offering exceptional fuel economy, stylish design, and excellent safety equipment. Whilst the Renault Clio offers slightly better value and the Honda Jazz provides superior practicality, the Yaris combines style with sensibility and delivers impressive running costs. The GR Yaris stands apart as one of the most exciting hot hatches available, offering thrilling performance and handling that rivals far more expensive cars. For budget-conscious buyers seeking economy and style, the Yaris is a sound choice.
