Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Funky to look at	Not the most practical car of its type
Punchy petrol engine	Some interior panels don't impress on quality
Most trim levels have decent kit	Many rivals are better on the road

Quick Summary

The Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) is a stylish small SUV that prioritises eye-catching design over practicality. With its angular, distinctive bodywork and equally jazzy interior, it certainly stands out from the crowd. Standard equipment is generous across most trim levels, including touchscreen infotainment, digital instrumentation, alloy wheels, air-conditioning, and comprehensive safety features. However, some interior panels lack quality, and practicality is compromised by limited rear legroom, small door openings, and a boot with an awkward lip and step.

The driving experience is acceptable but unremarkable. The punchy 1.2-litre petrol engine delivers strong performance, whilst the optional eight-speed automatic gearbox impresses with smooth shifts. The all-electric Mokka-e is compelling and quiet, though slightly heavier in corners. Fuel economy for petrol versions reaches around 45mpg in real-world driving, whilst the diesel achieves approximately 57mpg. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance groups ranging from 13 to 23. Company car drivers benefit significantly from the Mokka-e's low benefit-in-kind tax rate of just 2%.

Best for: Buyers prioritising striking design and kerbside appeal, those seeking a stylish small SUV with decent standard equipment, and company car drivers considering the electric variant for tax efficiency.

Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum practicality, superior interior quality, or engaging driving dynamics, or buyers seeking the best value in the small SUV segment.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Mokka if: You prioritise striking design and kerbside appeal, seek a stylish small SUV with decent standard equipment, or are a company car driver considering the electric variant for tax efficiency.

Consider alternatives if: You require maximum practicality, superior interior quality, engaging driving dynamics, or the best value in the small SUV segment.

Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Mokka (2021-present) is a distinctive contender in the small SUV market, excelling in style and standard equipment but falling short on practicality and driving engagement compared to rivals. Whilst the Volkswagen T-Cross and BMW 2 Series score higher on expert ratings and overall appeal, the Mokka's funky design and decent kit make it compelling for style-conscious buyers. The Peugeot 2008 offers similar value, but the Mokka's electric variant provides a compelling option for company car drivers seeking tax advantages. For those prioritising substance over style, alternatives may prove more satisfying.
