Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Wide choice of sizes and layouts | Low-quality cabin plastics |
| Refined and economical turbodiesel engines | Diesels need to be worked hard when the van is fully loaded |
| Enjoyable to drive | Payload is nothing special |
Quick Summary
The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) shares its underpinnings with the Renault Trafic, offering a practical and refined driving experience for a van. Assembled in the UK, it features smaller, turbocharged 1.6-litre diesel engines designed for improved fuel economy, with official figures often exceeding 40mpg. Available in various lengths and roof heights, its low loading floor and wide door apertures make it highly practical, capable of accommodating three Euro pallets even in short-wheelbase form. The cabin, despite utilitarian plastics, has an MPV-like design, offering a comfortable driving position and a supple ride.
While generally economical and quiet, some owners note that the 1.6-litre diesels might need to be worked harder when fully loaded compared to its predecessor. Trim levels include the basic Variant and the more equipped Sportive, which adds air conditioning. Running costs are reasonable, though more frequent oil changes than recommended are suggested for longevity. Overall, it's a popular choice, known for its car-like drive, comfortable interior, and good second-hand value, making it a strong contender in the used van market.
Best for: One-man band owners and fleet drivers, those seeking a comfortable, car-like driving experience in a van, buyers looking for good second-hand value and reasonable running costs, and those needing flexible load space.
Not ideal for: Buyers who need the absolute highest payload capacity in its class, those sensitive to low-quality cabin plastics, or those regularly hauling very heavy loads where the 1.6-litre engines might feel strained.

The Verdict
You should buy the Vivaro if: You're a one-man band owner or fleet driver, seeking a comfortable, car-like driving experience, good second-hand value, and flexible load space.
Consider alternatives if: You need the absolute highest payload capacity, are sensitive to interior plastic quality, or regularly haul very heavy loads that might strain the 1.6-litre engines.
Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) is a strong contender in the medium van segment, offering a comfortable, car-like driving experience and an MPV-inspired cabin. Its UK assembly, practical load space, and economical turbodiesel engines make it a popular choice for both small businesses and fleet operators. While its payload isn't class-leading and the engines might need to be worked hard when fully loaded, its overall value, refinement, and ease of use ensure its popularity as a second-hand purchase.

5 Overall rating
(7 reviews)This van was excellent just what I wanted but unfortunately the latest Vivaro L2 is 60mm shorter in load era than the older L2 model.
Excellent van, first class condition, been looked after well.
All the features needed. Love the automatic locking doors. Well worth the money. Always had a Renault Trafic but this is better
Great Van, High level of equipment, refined driving experience and good mpg!
Every van of this sort fails M.O.T. on the same things, so you know exactly what you are buying and what to expect from your M.O.T.s. the parts are very cheap also. The van inside, is definitely a 9/10. The only thing I found a problem with is the storage, it should have one compartment above the steering wheel. The space in the back is excellent, plenty of space. The drive is absolutely spot on, it has an eco button which does actually work.
