This van was excellent just what I wanted but unfortunately the latest Vivaro L2 is 60mm shorter in load era than the older L2 model.

All the features needed. Love the automatic locking doors. Well worth the money. Always had a Renault Trafic but this is better

Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Wide choice of sizes and layouts | Low-quality cabin plastics |
| Refined and economical turbodiesel engines | Diesels need to be worked hard when the van is fully loaded |
| Enjoyable to drive | Payload is nothing special |
Quick Summary
The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) is a practical and refined light commercial vehicle that shares its underpinnings with the Renault Trafic. Available with long and short wheelbases and high and low roofs, it offers versatile configurations including panel van, six-seat Combi, and nine-seat minibus variants. The low floor and wide sliding doors make loading straightforward, whilst the cabin design is more MPV-like than utilitarian, providing a comfortable driving environment with six-way adjustable seats and adjustable steering columns. All models feature a metal bulkhead (except the minibus) and can accommodate three Euro pallets or 8ft x 4ft panels with ease.
The Vivaro is powered by refined and quiet 1.6-litre turbodiesel engines, available in various configurations including BiTurbo variants with impressive torque figures. Euro 5 and Euro 6 compliant versions are available, with the latter receiving a 5bhp power boost and Adblue technology. Real-world fuel consumption typically ranges from the mid-30s to around 40mpg in mixed use, though urban delivery work may see lower figures. The supple ride quality, refined driving experience, and good value as a used vehicle make it deservedly popular with one-man band operators and fleet drivers. Service intervals are generous, and independent garages offer competitive rates compared to main dealers.
Best for: One-man band operators, fleet drivers, and businesses seeking a refined, economical, and enjoyable-to-drive light commercial vehicle with flexible load configurations.
Not ideal for: Those requiring maximum payload capacity or needing powerful performance when fully loaded, or buyers prioritising premium cabin quality.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vauxhall Vivaro | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 35.7% | 4.5/5 |
| Ford Transit Custom | 4/5 | 4.2/5 | 37.7% | 4.4/5 |
| Volkswagen Transporter T6 | 4/5 | 4.2/5 | 33.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Renault Trafic | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 36.4% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Vivaro if: You're a one-man band operator or fleet driver seeking a refined, economical, and enjoyable light commercial vehicle with flexible load configurations and good value for money.
Consider alternatives if: You require maximum payload capacity, need powerful performance when fully loaded, or prioritise premium cabin quality over practicality.
Competitive Position: The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014-2019) is a strong contender in the used light commercial vehicle market, offering excellent refinement, economy, and driving enjoyment. Its MPV-like cabin and wide range of configurations make it particularly appealing to one-man operators and fleet drivers. Whilst the Ford Transit Custom offers greater payload and the Volkswagen Transporter commands premium appeal, the Vivaro's combination of refined turbodiesel engines, supple ride quality, and competitive pricing make it outstanding value. The Renault Trafic shares the same platform but lacks the Vivaro's 'made in Britain' appeal. For most users, the Vivaro represents the ideal balance of practicality, refinement, and affordability.
