Volkswagen Scirocco (2008-2017) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Loads of cabin space for a sporty coupe | Not quite as sexy as an Audi TT |
| Driving experience balances sporty and sensible | Not as fun to drive as a BMW 2 Series |
| High-performance R is great fun | Potential reliability issues |
Quick Summary
The Volkswagen Scirocco (2008-2017) is a stylish and practical three-door coupe that, despite sharing underpinnings with the VW Golf, boasts unique curvaceous styling and a distinct driving experience. Its interior is robust, classy, and offers comfortable front seating with ample adjustment. While the sloping roofline limits rear headroom for taller passengers, knee-room is generous, making it surprisingly suitable for family duties. The 312-litre boot is quite usable, expanding to 1,200 litres with folded seats, though the high sill can be a minor hurdle. Launched with a 197bhp 2.0-litre TSI engine, the range expanded to include a 1.4-litre TSI, 2.0 TDI diesels, and the high-performance 261bhp Scirocco R. All engines offer strong mid-range performance thanks to turbocharging, providing a blend of agility and comfort suitable for both spirited driving and long motorway journeys. While older infotainment systems might feel dated, the car comes well-equipped with features like climate control and alloy wheels across its various trims. Running costs are manageable, with specialist networks and fixed-price servicing options available, though potential reliability issues, particularly with older components, warrant careful pre-purchase inspection. Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, fun-to-drive coupe with good practicality for its class, comfortable for long journeys, and available in high-performance R guise.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising the latest infotainment technology, those needing maximum rear headroom, or those wary of potential reliability issues with older models.

The Verdict
You should buy the Scirocco if: You're looking for a stylish, fun-to-drive coupe with a good balance of sportiness and practicality, suitable for daily use and longer journeys, and appreciate its distinctive looks.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise cutting-edge infotainment, require maximum rear headroom, or are concerned about potential reliability issues common with older models.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Scirocco (2008-2017) stands out as a highly likeable and practical three-door coupe, offering a compelling blend of distinctive styling, engaging driving dynamics, and surprising usability for its class. While it may not offer the absolute latest in-car technology or be entirely free from potential reliability concerns in older examples, its strong performance across the range, comfortable interior, and family-friendly boot space make it a strong contender against rivals. It provides a more stylish and sporty alternative to conventional hatchbacks without sacrificing too much everyday practicality.

4.5 Overall rating
(8 reviews)Beautiful car in all ways. An absolute pleasure to drive. Good value for money at the price I paid . Only quibble is the lack of cruise control.
The car is a perfect all rounder car. You need a good looking car? You need a 4 seater car? You need boot space? Going long distance or short? Finding large car for parking an issue? Cheap road tax? Road bumps causing an issue? Look no further. This car deals with all of these with great positivity and expectations. Only con I can find in this car is the fact that you can feel those tiny bumps on uneven road very easily, it doesn’t ride smoothly as you would think cars are designed for. I’m sure tuning the suspicion may fix this. Otherwise the seats are very comfortable. Only reason why it doesn’t receive a full 5 star rating from me. Thank you
Exciting car just to look at yet alone drive. Great driving experience especially with the DSG box Needs more power but that is easily remedied because of the turbo Avery good buy
The car seems to be running perfectly although I haven’t yet taken it too far but so far so good so I am happy with the purchase. Think that the car was competitively priced and am happy with the model.
Lovely car but not for me Looking for a white model
