Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Brilliant for practicality and versatility | Infotainment system is way too complex |
| Nicely trimmed interior | Firm ride on larger alloy wheels |
| Good looks and desirable image | Many versions look rather expensive |
Quick Summary
The latest Volkswagen Tiguan is the third generation of VW's best-selling mid-size five-seater family SUV, positioning itself at the posher end of the mainstream market. It boasts smart, conservative looks with high-end detailing, and an interior that feels a cut above many rivals, along with a focus on technology, particularly its large touchscreen infotainment system. While the mild-hybrid engines can feel a little underwhelming, the plug-in hybrid eHybrid models offer impressive electric-only range (around 60-70 miles) and strong combined performance.
Practicality is a major strength, with hugely impressive interior space, generous head and legroom, and a versatile rear bench that slides and reclines. The boot is a very generous 652 litres (490 litres for PHEVs) and well-designed for usability. Running costs are competitive, especially for PHEV company car drivers due to low Benefit-in-Kind tax. However, the infotainment system can be overly complex, and the ride can be firm on larger wheels, with many versions crossing the £40,000 threshold, incurring an additional luxury car surcharge.
Best for: Family buyers needing generous interior space and a big boot, those seeking a premium-feeling interior and desirable image, company car drivers considering plug-in hybrids, and buyers prioritising practicality and versatility.
Not ideal for: Buyers on a strict budget, those who dislike complex touchscreen interfaces, or drivers sensitive to a firm ride (especially on larger wheels).

The Verdict
You should buy the Tiguan if: You're a family buyer seeking generous space and a versatile interior, you appreciate a premium-feeling cabin and desirable image, or you're a company car driver considering the advantageous plug-in hybrid options.
Consider alternatives if: You're on a tight budget, prefer physical controls over a complex touchscreen, or desire a softer, more cosseting ride.
Competitive Position: The Volkswagen Tiguan (2024-present) is a strong contender in the family SUV market, excelling in practicality, interior quality, and offering a desirable image. Its varied powertrain options, particularly the long-range plug-in hybrids, make it an attractive choice for many. While its infotainment system can be frustrating and some versions are pricey, its overall package of space, style, and advanced features ensures it holds its own against key rivals, making it a highly appealing option for those who value refinement and versatility.
Volkswagen Tiguan Review

4.6 Overall rating
(21 reviews)A lot of bells and whistles for the money. The automatic is smooth and quick, in fact without the display you wouldnt know it had changed gear. Great car,I would highly recommend it.
Features are compatible to bmw x3, but £10,000 cheaper, brilliant
Owned a tiguan for 5 years previous so I new what a great car it is.
The size allows plenty of room for four adults, but is not too large to make supermarket parking practically impossible. The addition of rear seat adjustments in both seat position and backrest also helps to comfortably accommodate even the taller adults. The semi-auto DSG gearbox makes gear change almost imperceptible. Plus the ride is comfortable and composed over most surfaces.....except pothole-riddled roads. However, one must accept that only a military tank could travel along UK roads without subjecting its occupants to the bone-shaking jolts that we UK drivers routinely endure. The information display has a very wide range of menus and settings that provide ample data in a clearly defined manner. I cant compare this compact SUV to other makes because Ive not driven any offerings from rival manufacturers. The fact that Ive bought one should indicate I think the car is value for money.
Good service record and comfortable to drive. Looks sleek and modern
