It is a solid safety orientated car. Full of useful gadgets and comfortable to drive. I would have preferred it to have a spare wheel instead of the inflatable foam as any blow out would mean that it could not be driven. In any case once you use the expanding foam it would mean that you would have to replace the tire instead of getting it repaired.

Volvo V60 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Crisp styling inside and out | VW Passat and Skoda Superb offer bigger boots |
| Supreme long-distance comfort | A BMW 3 Series Touring is nicer to drive |
| An interesting alternative to a BMW or Mercedes | The V60 is starting to feel its age |
Quick Summary
The Volvo V60 is a comfortable and stylish estate car that combines understated Scandinavian design with practical functionality. Launched in 2018, it offers 529 litres of boot space with rear seats in place, expanding to 1,441 litres when folded. The current B4 mild-hybrid petrol engine delivers 194bhp with respectable fuel economy of 37.6-44.1mpg. Standard equipment is comprehensive, including City Safety automatic braking, blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, and a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Google operating system integration.
The V60 excels as a long-distance cruiser with excellent ride quality, refinement, and passenger space that surpasses rivals like the Audi A5 Avant and BMW 3 Series Touring. Whilst it lacks the sportiness of a BMW or the spaciousness of a Skoda Superb, it offers a sophisticated alternative for those prioritising comfort and elegant design. Running costs are reasonable, with insurance group 29-30 and servicing around £290. However, at eight years into its lifecycle, the V60 is beginning to show its age compared to newer competitors.
Best for: Drivers seeking a comfortable, stylish estate car with premium appeal, those valuing long-distance comfort and sophisticated design, and buyers wanting an alternative to German premium brands.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising maximum boot space, engaging driving dynamics, or the latest technology and design language.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volvo V60 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 36.7% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW 3 Series Touring | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 33.7% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi A5 Avant | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 35.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Superb Estate | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 34.5% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the V60 if: You value comfort and elegant Scandinavian design, seek a sophisticated alternative to German premium brands, or prioritise long-distance refinement and passenger space.
Consider alternatives if: You need maximum boot space, want engaging driving dynamics, or require the latest technology and design language.
Competitive Position: The Volvo V60 holds its own as a comfortable and stylish estate car, though it faces stiff competition from newer rivals. Whilst the BMW 3 Series Touring edges ahead with superior driving dynamics and the Skoda Superb offers more boot space, the V60 distinguishes itself through refined comfort, sophisticated design, and an interesting alternative to traditional German premium options. Its value proposition remains strong for those prioritising long-distance comfort over sportiness, though prospective buyers should be aware that the V60 is beginning to show its age after eight years on sale.
