It is a solid safety orientated car. Full of useful gadgets and comfortable to drive. I would have preferred it to have a spare wheel instead of the inflatable foam as any blow out would mean that it could not be driven. In any case once you use the expanding foam it would mean that you would have to replace the tire instead of getting it repaired.

Volvo V60 Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Crisp styling inside and out | VW Passat and Skoda Superb offer bigger boots |
| Supreme long-distance comfort | A BMW 3 Series Touring is nicer to drive |
| An interesting alternative to a BMW or Mercedes | The V60 is starting to feel its age |
Quick Summary
The Volvo V60 is a comfortable and stylish estate car that combines understated Scandinavian design with practical functionality. With 529 litres of boot space (expanding to 1,441 litres with rear seats folded), it offers excellent passenger room, particularly in the rear with more headroom and legroom than rivals like the Audi A5 Avant, BMW 3 Series Touring, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate. The current B4 mild-hybrid petrol engine delivers 194bhp with reasonable fuel economy of 37.6-44.1mpg, whilst comprehensive safety features and over-the-air software updates come as standard across both Plus and Ultra trim levels.
The V60 prioritises refinement and long-distance comfort over sporty engagement, making it ideal for those who value sophisticated design and effortless cruising. Whilst it may not match the driving dynamics of a BMW 3 Series Touring or the sheer boot space of a Skoda Superb, it represents an interesting and desirable alternative in the premium estate car segment. However, at eight years into its lifecycle, the V60 is beginning to show its age compared to newer rivals, though its quality interior detailing and Volvo's reputation for safety and practicality remain compelling reasons to consider it.
Best for: Buyers seeking a premium, comfortable estate car with sophisticated styling, excellent long-distance capability, and comprehensive safety features; those who value Volvo's design philosophy and practicality over outright performance.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising maximum boot space, engaging driving dynamics, or the latest technology; those seeking a car at the cutting edge of the estate car market.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Volvo V60 | 4/5 | 4.7/5 | 38.1% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW 3 Series Touring | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 34.6% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi A5 Avant | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 38.7% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Superb Estate | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 36.8% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the V60 if: You value sophisticated Scandinavian design, supreme long-distance comfort, and comprehensive safety features, and seek an interesting alternative to German premium rivals.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise maximum boot space, engaging driving dynamics, or the latest technology, or require a car at the cutting edge of the estate car market.
Competitive Position: The Volvo V60 holds its own in the premium estate car segment, offering distinctive styling and exceptional comfort that appeals to those seeking an alternative to the BMW 3 Series Touring, Audi A5 Avant, and Skoda Superb Estate. Whilst the BMW edges ahead on driving engagement and the Skoda offers more practicality, the V60's refined approach, quality interior, and Volvo's renowned safety credentials make it a compelling choice for comfort-focused buyers. However, its age relative to newer competitors means it lacks the latest technology and design freshness, which may influence those seeking a more contemporary estate car.
