Audi A4 (2016-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Quiet and comfortable on long journeys | Not as engaging to drive as the BMW 3 Series or Jaguar XE |
| Wide range of efficient petrol and diesel engines | The Avant is not as practical as larger estate cars for similar money |
| Well equipped, even in the base model | Ride comfort suffers with sport suspension |
Quick Summary
The Audi A4 (2016-2024) is a classy and competent compact executive saloon and estate car that represents the fifth and final generation of this popular model. It combines smart styling with a beautifully appointed interior, spacious seating, and a comprehensive range of impressively efficient engines. Whilst it may not offer the driving engagement of the BMW 3 Series or the aspirational appeal of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the A4 excels in comfort and refinement, making it an excellent choice for those prioritising a serene driving experience and long-distance capability.
The A4 offers practical boot space comparable to the contemporary 3 Series and superior to the C-Class, with flexible rear seats that split into three sections. An estate variant, the A4 Avant, provides additional versatility for those needing extra luggage capacity. Running costs are competitive, with diesel models achieving 50-55mpg and petrol versions delivering 40-45mpg in real-world conditions. The well-equipped SE trim offers excellent value, though buyers should avoid larger alloy wheels and sport suspension for optimal ride comfort. In 2024, the A4 was succeeded by the A5, which now serves as Audi's combustion-engined executive saloon.
Best for: Drivers seeking a refined, comfortable executive saloon or estate with excellent build quality, efficient engines, and premium technology at a competitive price point.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising engaging driving dynamics, maximum practicality in an estate format, or those who prefer sportier suspension setups as standard.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging driving dynamics, maximum practicality in an estate format, or prefer sportier suspension setups as standard.
Competitive Position: The Audi A4 (2016-2024) is a strong contender in the compact executive segment, offering exceptional comfort, refinement, and value. Whilst the BMW 3 Series edges ahead in driving engagement and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers greater aspirational appeal, the A4 delivers superior long-distance comfort and a more comprehensive range of efficient engines. I have always loved Audi cars and I think you got a good collection of cars to make a good choice from. Sometimes there are misrepresentations on some cars. you find that the car is manual whereas the details given do not much the pictures of the car. Just something to be mindful of other than that you are excellent
