Bonnet and front bumper is covered in significant stone chips that they have tried to paint over using a slightly different colour and damage to the interior door trim - over £1,000 to repair with BMW

BMW X3 (2018-2024) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| More fun to drive than most rivals | Sportier versions have a firm ride |
| A wide choice of efficient petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines | Not as able off road as a Land Rover |
| Spacious and comfortable cabin | No seven-seat option |
Quick Summary
The BMW X3 (2018-2024), known as the G01, is a compact premium SUV that blends impressive handling with strong performance, practicality and modern technology. This generation was launched in 2017 and features a slightly longer wheelbase than its predecessor, providing enhanced spaciousness. A range of versions is available, including petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid models, alongside the high-performance X3 M Competition. The cabin is spacious, comfortable and well-designed with excellent build quality, whilst the 550-litre boot accommodates most luggage requirements with ease.
Where the BMW sets itself apart from rivals such as the Audi Q5 and Land Rover Discovery Sport is on the road. Even entry-level engines are flexible and powerful, and the X3's handling is far more sporting and engaging than competitors. It's refined and rides well, though sportier models can be less relaxing on broken surfaces. Running costs vary depending on the model chosen, with the xDrive20i and xDrive20d capable of averaging up to 36.7mpg and 47.9mpg respectively. The plug-in hybrid xDrive30e offers the best economy at up to 148.7mpg with emissions as low as 44g/km of CO2. Fixed-price servicing plans are available to help spread maintenance costs.
Best for: Buyers seeking a premium SUV with engaging handling, those wanting a choice of efficient powertrains, and drivers prioritising a spacious, comfortable cabin with modern technology.
Not ideal for: Those requiring off-road capability, buyers needing a seven-seat option, or those seeking the ultimate comfort over driving engagement.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| BMW X3 | 5/5 | 4.4/5 | 37.9% | 4.5/5 |

| Audi Q5 | 4/5 | 4.3/5 | 40.5% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the X3 if: You're seeking a premium SUV with engaging handling, want a choice of efficient powertrains, or prioritise a spacious, comfortable cabin with modern technology.
Consider alternatives if: You require off-road capability, need a seven-seat option, or prefer ultimate comfort over driving engagement.
Competitive Position: The BMW X3 (2018-2024) is a standout contender in the premium compact SUV market, offering superior driving dynamics and a comprehensive range of efficient engines. Whilst the Volvo XC60 may provide greater comfort and the Land Rover Discovery Sport better off-road credentials, the X3's overall package of engaging handling, spacious interior and modern technology makes it an excellent choice for discerning buyers. The Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan are also strong alternatives, but the BMW's driving engagement and versatile powertrain options give it a clear edge for those prioritising an enjoyable driving experience.
