Great value and the Ultimate is well equipped with everything that will ever be needed. Hyundai quality has developed and now competes alongside other more costly brands. The 5 year warranty is a big plus. Looking forward to some economical and practical motoring in the Tucson

Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of standard kit | Not all that fun to drive |
| Five-year warranty | Unsettled ride on big 19-inch wheels |
| Choice of hybrid powertrains | Plug-in hybrid range not a match for best in class |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) is a midsize family SUV that has evolved from a budget offering into an aspirational vehicle capable of competing with premium brands. The current generation, which received a facelift in mid-2024, features distinctive styling with segmented front lights, Coke-bottle curves, and sharp creases. Inside, the post-facelift model boasts a striking curved infotainment setup with twin 12.3-inch screens. Space is generous throughout, with ample legroom and headroom for passengers, whilst the boot offers up to 620-litres of luggage space depending on powertrain choice.
The Tucson is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine available in multiple configurations: non-hybrid, mild hybrid, self-charging hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants. The self-charging hybrid delivers the most balanced performance, offering effortless acceleration and impressive fuel economy of over 50mpg. Whilst the Tucson prioritises comfort and practicality over driving excitement, it excels as an easygoing companion for both long journeys and short hops. The plug-in hybrid provides around 40 miles of electric-only range, though this lags behind some competitors. With a five-year warranty and a wide range of hybrid powertrains, the Tucson represents excellent value for money.
Best for: Families seeking a practical, well-equipped SUV with modern technology, buyers prioritising comfort and standard kit, and those interested in hybrid powertrains for improved efficiency.
Not ideal for: Drivers wanting an engaging, fun-to-drive experience, those sensitive to ride quality on larger wheels, or buyers seeking class-leading plug-in hybrid range.

The Verdict
You should buy the Tucson if: You're seeking a practical, well-equipped family SUV with modern technology, prioritising comfort and standard kit, or interested in hybrid powertrains for improved efficiency.
Consider alternatives if: You want an engaging, fun-to-drive experience, are sensitive to ride quality on larger wheels, or require class-leading plug-in hybrid range.
Competitive Position: The Hyundai Tucson (2021-present) is a solid all-rounder in the midsize SUV market, offering excellent value, generous standard equipment, and a comprehensive range of hybrid powertrains. Whilst it may not match the Volkswagen Tiguan for premium feel or the Kia Sportage for driving engagement, the Tucson's combination of practicality, technology, and affordability makes it a compelling choice for families. The BYD Seal U offers better value, but the Tucson's warranty and established brand reputation provide greater peace of mind. For those prioritising comfort and equipment over driving dynamics, the Tucson represents an impressive proposition.
