Hyundai ix35 (2010-2015) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of standard equipment | Not as fun to drive as a Skoda Yeti |
| Affordable to buy | Gruff diesel engines |
| Excellent safety by the standards of the time | Unsettled ride |
Quick Summary
The Hyundai ix35 (2010-2015) was a pivotal model for Hyundai, helping to establish its reputation for well-built, well-designed, and affordable cars. Launched in 2010 as a replacement for the Tucson, it entered the burgeoning SUV market with a distinctive, sculpted design that eschewed the boxy look of many rivals. Facelifted in 2013, it offered a compelling package against competitors like the Nissan Qashqai, Ford Kuga, and Skoda Yeti, demonstrating Hyundai's growing prowess.
Practicality is a strong suit, with a 591-litre boot and useful underfloor storage, though rear access and view for children could be better. On the road, it offers accurate steering and composed handling, though the ride can be firm, especially on larger wheels. Diesel engines (1.7-litre and 2.0-litre CRDi) are the pick for economy, offering around 40mpg real-world, while petrol options are less impressive. Standard equipment levels were generous across its Style/Premium and later S/SE/Premium trims, making it a robust, comfortable, and well-appointed family SUV that offers significant value on the used market.
Best for: Drivers on a budget, those seeking a distinctive, hassle-free, practical, and well-equipped family SUV.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising the finest driving dynamics or engine refinement (like a Skoda Yeti or Ford Kuga).

The Verdict
You should buy the ix35 if: You're on a budget, seeking a distinctive, hassle-free, practical, and well-equipped family SUV.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise the finest driving dynamics or engine refinement (like a Skoda Yeti or Ford Kuga).
Competitive Position: The Hyundai ix35 (2010-2015) was a breakout success for Hyundai, proving the brand could produce desirable, high-quality cars that challenged mainstream rivals. While it might not match the Ford Kuga or Skoda Yeti for ultimate driving dynamics or engine refinement, it offered exceptional standard equipment and represented excellent value when new, a benefit that carries over to the used market. Its robust, practical, and comfortable nature, combined with its affordability, makes it a savvy choice for those seeking a distinctive and hassle-free family SUV.

4.4 Overall rating
(12 reviews)Excellent value for money, lots of features and great performance
I have taken one of these for a test drive and as far Im concerned it ticks all the boxes that I require,Ive decided to wait until later on in the year to purchase one
The car has dents all over and fog lights gone, the car floor on the driver side is all gone, anly holes, very disappointing after dropping everything to go see the car with intention to buy. Very sad
Great looking car, The Hyundai in general is a great all rounder,i.e. a family car, a work horse and a luxury cruising car likened to the Vauxhall Moka which is a great comparison to the Hyundai
Gearbox made from chocolate other than that looks nice in the eye
