Kia EV4 (2025) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
Very spacious	Not cheap to buy
Smart, airy interior	No standard heat pump
Roomy rear seats and boot	Unremarkable charging speeds

Quick Summary

The Kia EV4 is a family-friendly electric hatchback and saloon that offers a refreshing alternative to SUV-dominated EV markets. Available in both hatchback and Fastback (saloon) configurations, it competes with the Volkswagen ID.3, MG 4, and Peugeot e-308. The hatchback provides 431 litres of boot space with generous rear legroom, whilst the Fastback offers 490 litres, positioning it against the Tesla Model 3 and Citroën e-C4 X. The single 201bhp motor delivers 7.5-second acceleration to 62mph, with battery options ranging from 58.3kWh (273-mile WLTP range) to 81.4kWh (388-mile WLTP range).

The EV4 excels in comfort and practicality, with a well-designed interior featuring dual 12.3-inch displays and comprehensive equipment across all trims. Ride quality is smooth and composed, whilst handling is competent if unexciting. Running costs are competitive, though the lack of a standard heat pump on lower trims is disappointing. The GT-Line S trim exceeds £40,000, triggering higher VED rates. With a seven-year warranty and biennial servicing requirements, the EV4 represents a well-rounded, spacious electric family car for those prioritising comfort and practicality over budget pricing.

Best for: Families seeking a spacious, comfortable electric hatchback or saloon with generous equipment; those wanting an EV without an SUV body style; buyers prioritising interior space and ride quality.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious EV buyers; those requiring a heat pump as standard; drivers seeking the lowest charging times or the most engaging handling dynamics.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the EV4 if: You're seeking a spacious, comfortable electric hatchback or saloon with generous equipment; you want an EV without an SUV body style; you prioritise interior space and ride quality over budget pricing.

Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious; you require a heat pump as standard; you seek the lowest charging times or the most engaging handling dynamics.

Competitive Position: The Kia EV4 (2025) is a well-rounded contender in the electric hatchback market, offering exceptional spaciousness, smart interior design, and comfortable driving dynamics. Whilst it commands a premium price compared to the MG 4 and undercuts the Volkswagen ID.3 on equivalent specifications, it lacks the user ratings of its rivals and misses out on standard heat pump technology. However, its generous equipment levels, seven-year warranty, and refined comfort make it an excellent choice for families prioritising practicality and refinement over outright affordability or performance. The Fastback variant provides a compelling alternative to traditional saloons like the Tesla Model 3.
