Kia Sorento Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Excellent value for a seven-seat SUV | Hybrids having lower towing limits than diesels |
| Spacious and high-quality interior | BMW and Audi rivals are better to drive |
| Wide engine range including hybrid and plug-in hybrid | Feels large and bulky to drive in towns |
Quick Summary
The Kia Sorento is a spacious, seven-seat family SUV that has fully embraced electrification, featuring updated styling and an upgraded interior following its 2024 facelift. It offers both a self-charging hybrid (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, with combined outputs up to 284bhp for the PHEV. A 2.2-litre diesel option remains available for those prioritising towing ability and long-distance efficiency, making it a versatile choice for various needs.
This fourth-generation Sorento is larger than its predecessor, offering improved interior room, especially in the second and third rows, and generous boot space up to 1,996 litres. While prioritising comfort and refinement over agility, it provides a high-quality, well-equipped cabin that rivals premium brands. Running costs are competitive, particularly for the PHEV if regularly charged, and its robust build quality reflects Kia's move upmarket, delivering excellent value in the seven-seat SUV segment.
Best for: Families needing a spacious seven-seat SUV, those looking for electrified powertrain options (hybrid/PHEV), buyers who need strong towing capacity (diesel), and those valuing comfort and refinement over sporty handling.
Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising ultimate driving agility (like Audi Q5/BMW X3), those who find large SUVs bulky for town driving, or those expecting class-leading EV range from the PHEV.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Sorento | 5/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.8% | 4.5/5 |

The Verdict
You should buy the Sorento if: You need a spacious, practical seven-seat SUV for family life, appreciate a high-quality interior, want electrified powertrain options, or require strong towing capabilities.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ultimate driving dynamics and agility over comfort, find larger SUVs cumbersome for urban driving, or expect a longer electric-only range from a PHEV.
Competitive Position: The Kia Sorento stands out in the seven-seat SUV market by offering an excellent blend of practicality, comfort, and advanced hybrid technology. While rivals like the Audi Q5 or BMW X3 might offer a more engaging drive, the Sorento's spacious, high-quality cabin and competitive running costs, combined with its strong towing capacity in diesel variants, make it a compelling choice. It delivers near-premium levels of refinement and equipment at a more accessible price point, particularly for families where space and versatility are paramount.
Kia Sorento Review

4.6 Overall rating
(29 reviews)Lovely big car, very comfy and great to drive. Not as economical as the Sportage but worth it for the extra space. This is the second one Ive bought as I really enjoy the drive.
This car has got all possible futures. The ratio price/quality is amazing. One disappointment - even the dearest variant doesnt offer a driver seat massage. Ive compared Kia Sorento KX4 with Skoda Kodiaq Edition.
One of the best 7 seaters, but is to expensive for used cars.
a bit slow on the overtaking and a bit boaty
Good car with all what you need inside. Especially 4 series in nice with Sun roof. Good engines Good engineering.
