Great cars however they are holding onto their value a bit, pricey for a second hand one. It's a lot larger than my previous car. I'm really looking forward to putting it through the family time paces.

Lovely big car, very comfy and great to drive. Not as economical as the Sportage but worth it for the extra space. This is the second one Ive bought as I really enjoy the drive.

This car has got all possible futures. The ratio price/quality is amazing. One disappointment - even the dearest variant doesnt offer a driver seat massage. Ive compared Kia Sorento KX4 with Skoda Kodiaq Edition.

Kia Sorento (2015-2019) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Practical interior | Seat Tarraco is better to drive |
| Third-row seats are roomier than most | It's a big car to park |
| 4WD as standard | Diesel-only engine range |
Quick Summary
The Kia Sorento (2015-2019) is a spacious and well-equipped seven-seat SUV that represents excellent value in the premium family car market. This third-generation model shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Santa Fe and rivals the Skoda Kodiaq and Seat Tarraco. It features a quality cabin with soft-touch plastics, comfortable front seats, and a well-laid-out dashboard. The second row offers generous space for three adults, whilst the third row accommodates children or occasional adult passengers. With all seats in place, the boot offers 142 litres, expanding to 660 litres with the third row folded and 1,732 litres with both rear rows folded—more than the Land Rover Discovery Sport.
The Sorento is powered by a single 2.2-litre CRDi turbodiesel engine available with six-speed manual or automatic transmission (upgraded to eight-speed from 2018). Whilst not particularly economical, achieving around 35mpg with the manual and 30-32mpg with the automatic, it's a capable tow car favoured by caravan and boat owners. The ride is comfort-focused with soft suspension that soaks up road imperfections, though it's less engaging to drive than rivals. All versions come with four-wheel drive as standard. Trim levels range from KX-1 through to KX-4, with even entry-level models well-equipped with air-conditioning, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and rear parking sensors. Insurance falls between groups 24 and 27, with reasonable servicing costs and maintenance due every 12 months or 20,000 miles.
Best for: Families needing seven seats, those regularly carrying passengers, caravan and boat owners, and buyers seeking a practical, comfortable, and well-equipped SUV with four-wheel drive.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling, those with limited parking space, or buyers seeking petrol engine options or superior driving dynamics.
Comparison vs Key Rivals

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Sorento | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 29.8% | 4.2/5 |
| Peugeot 5008 | 4/5 | 5.0/5 | 36.0% | 4.4/5 |
| Skoda Kodiaq | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 33.3% | 4.4/5 |
| Land Rover Discovery Sport | 4/5 | 4.8/5 | 34.7% | 4.5/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Sorento if: You need seven seats, regularly carry passengers, own a caravan or boat, or seek a practical, comfortable, and well-equipped SUV with four-wheel drive as standard.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling, have limited parking space, require petrol engine options, or want superior driving dynamics.
Competitive Position: The Kia Sorento (2015-2019) is a solid contender in the seven-seat SUV market, offering practicality, comfort, and excellent value. Whilst it lacks the driving engagement of the Seat Tarraco or the premium feel of the Land Rover Discovery Sport, its spacious interior, standard four-wheel drive, and well-equipped trim levels make it an outstanding choice for families. The Peugeot 5008 offers slightly better value, but the Sorento's roomier third-row seats and proven reliability make it a compelling alternative for those prioritising passenger space and comfort over dynamic handling.
