Range Rover Evoque (2019-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
More affordable than a large Range Rover	Land Rover's reliability record is a concern
Comfortable ride on standard or adaptive suspension	Not as sporty to drive as the first-generation Evoque
Plug-in hybrid can be cheap to run if charged regularly	Some rivals are roomier

Quick Summary

The Range Rover Evoque (2019-present) is a stylish and luxurious compact premium SUV that delivers Range Rover class and sophistication at a more accessible price point. The second-generation model retains the original's coupe-like profile and fashion-conscious design whilst adding smoother styling, a more upmarket interior, and modern Range Rover touches including flush door handles. Recent updates have introduced a smarter cabin and modern infotainment system, with engine options including petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid versions, many featuring mild-hybrid technology for improved efficiency.

The Evoque offers a comfortable, grown-up driving experience with good ride quality, particularly on standard or adaptive suspension, and is more capable off-road than most compact premium SUVs. Boot space is reasonable at 591 litres with rear seats up, extending to 1,383 litres folded down. Whilst not the cheapest premium SUV to buy or run, strong desirability should help values remain relatively healthy. The plug-in hybrid is particularly tax-friendly and cost-effective if you can charge regularly, whilst diesel versions suit higher-mileage motorway driving. Insurance and servicing are likely to be pricier than mainstream rivals, though Land Rover service plans can help spread costs.

Best for: Buyers seeking premium style and Range Rover badge appeal, company car drivers (especially plug-in hybrid versions), and those prioritising comfort and luxury over maximum practicality.

Not ideal for: Budget-conscious buyers, those concerned about Land Rover reliability, drivers needing maximum rear headroom or boot space, or those seeking the sportiest driving dynamics in the compact SUV class.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the Evoque if: You're seeking premium style and Range Rover badge appeal, a company car driver (especially plug-in hybrid versions), or prioritising comfort and luxury over maximum practicality.

Consider alternatives if: You're budget-conscious, concerned about Land Rover reliability, need maximum rear headroom or boot space, or seek the sportiest driving dynamics in the compact SUV class.

Competitive Position: The Range Rover Evoque (2019-present) is a strong contender in the premium compact SUV market, offering distinctive styling, luxurious comfort, and Range Rover prestige at a more accessible price than larger models. Whilst rivals like the Volvo XC40 and Audi Q3 may offer more practicality and potentially better reliability, the Evoque's desirability and strong value retention make it a compelling choice for those prioritising premium image and comfort. The plug-in hybrid variants are particularly attractive for company car drivers and those with home charging access, offering low tax costs and economical running. Land Rover's reliability concerns should be factored into ownership considerations, but the Evoque remains a sophisticated and capable premium SUV.
