MG ZS SUV (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Generous kit and affordable prices | A bit so-so to drive |
| Good interior quality given the price | No reach adjustment on the steering column |
| Looks pretty stylish | Lots of road noise |
Quick Summary
The MG ZS SUV (2024-present) is a thoroughly convincing evolution of its predecessor, offering more space, practicality, and standard equipment than most rivals at a lower cost. The second-generation model adds smart styling, impressive interior quality, and low hybrid running costs to the formula. With a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors delivering 193bhp, it achieves 55.4mpg and produces 115g/km CO2 emissions. The spacious 443-litre boot expands to 1,457 litres with rear seats folded, making it practical for families. A generous seven-year warranty adds further peace of mind.
Whilst not without flaws—the powertrain can sound raucous occasionally, road noise is pronounced at higher speeds, and rivals offer more comfortable rides—the ZS delivers exceptional value for money. The entry-level SE trim comes well-equipped with climate control, rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera, whilst the Trophy adds leather-style upholstery, heated seats, and a 360-degree camera system. The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a significant improvement over previous MG efforts, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, though some functions remain buried in menus.
Best for: Budget-conscious buyers seeking a spacious, well-equipped SUV with low running costs, families needing practicality without premium pricing, and those valuing generous standard equipment.
Not ideal for: Drivers prioritising engaging handling, those sensitive to road noise, or buyers requiring steering wheel reach adjustment as standard.

The Verdict
You should buy the ZS if: You're seeking a spacious, well-equipped SUV with low running costs, need practicality without premium pricing, or value generous standard equipment and smart styling.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise engaging handling, are sensitive to road noise, or require steering wheel reach adjustment as standard.
Competitive Position: The MG ZS SUV (2024-present) is a compelling proposition in the compact SUV segment, offering more space, practicality, and standard equipment than most rivals at a significantly lower cost. Whilst the Renault Captur edges ahead on expert rating and the Toyota Yaris Cross impresses with user satisfaction, the ZS delivers exceptional value for money. Its hybrid powertrain provides impressive fuel economy and low emissions, whilst the generous seven-year warranty provides confidence. Though it may not match rivals for driving dynamics or refinement, its affordability, spaciousness, and well-appointed interior make it a highly sensible choice for budget-conscious families and practical buyers.
