Customers say
The MINI Mini Countryman is highly regarded for its fun driving experience, comfort, and stylish design. Many owners appreciate its nippy performance and the added height that makes it feel more like an SUV. However, some have expressed concerns about visibility in tight spots and the overall price, especially when factoring in additional features that may not be standard. Overall, it's a compact SUV that balances practicality and enjoyment.

We love our Mini Countryman. I have owned Minis since the very first one came out in the 1960s I have owned other cars including BMWs and Mercedes but I always have a soft spot for Minis as they are good value for money, stylish, classless and fun to drive.

This 2.0 litre model performs extremely well as one would expect for a Cooper S variant, despite the size of the car. It has good acceleration, amazing stopping power and feels like a much bigger car. Overall, this car exceeded my expectation.

The inside of the 5 door felt incredibly cramped, very little room for a bale of hay. I find the 3 door is much more versatile.

MINI Countryman (2024-present) Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lots of interior space | Interior doesn't impress as much for quality |
| Well equipped | Infotainment has some ergonomic issues |
| Very stylish interior | Many rivals ride more comfortably |
Quick Summary
The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a spacious and practical premium compact SUV that combines the brand's cheeky character with genuine family-friendly functionality. Considerably larger than its predecessor, it offers generous interior space, excellent headroom and legroom, and a well-sized boot with clever storage solutions. The range includes three petrol variants (C, S, and high-performance JCW) plus two all-electric options (E and SE), catering to diverse buyer preferences. Standard equipment is generous, featuring LED lighting, roof rails, dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, and a heated steering wheel.
The standout feature is the industry-first circular OLED infotainment screen, which looks brilliant but can feel cluttered with information. Interior styling is funky and contemporary, though some hard plastics undermine the premium feel. The C model delivers adequate performance with 168bhp, whilst the JCW offers thrilling 296bhp with adaptive suspension for improved ride quality. Fuel economy ranges from 46.3mpg (C) to 36.2mpg (JCW), with electric variants offering up to 287 miles of range. Prices start around £30,000, making it competitive within the premium compact SUV segment.
Best for: Families seeking a stylish, spacious premium SUV with MINI's distinctive character, buyers wanting generous standard equipment, and those interested in electric or high-performance options.
Not ideal for: Those prioritising interior material quality, drivers wanting intuitive infotainment systems, or buyers seeking the softest ride in the segment.
Comparison vs Key Rivals
| Vehicle | CarGurus Expert Rating | CarGurus User Rating | Good/Great deals % | Overall CarGurus Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MINI Countryman | 4/5 | 4.6/5 | 32.5% | 4.3/5 |
| BMW X1 | 4/5 | 4.5/5 | 33.9% | 4.5/5 |
| Audi Q2 | 4/5 | 4.0/5 | 35.0% | 4.3/5 |
| Mercedes-Benz GLA | 4/5 | 4.4/5 | 34.1% | 4.4/5 |
The Verdict
You should buy the Countryman if: You want a stylish, spacious premium compact SUV with distinctive character, value generous standard equipment, or seek electric or high-performance options.
Consider alternatives if: You prioritise interior material quality, prefer intuitive infotainment systems, or desire the softest ride in the segment.
Competitive Position: The MINI Countryman (2024-present) is a compelling choice in the premium compact SUV market, offering excellent practicality and distinctive styling that rivals struggle to match. Whilst the BMW X1 edges ahead on overall rating and the Audi Q2 offers slightly better value, the Countryman's generous space, well-equipped standard specification, and unique character make it highly attractive for buyers seeking something different. The firm ride and infotainment quirks are minor compromises for those prioritising style, space, and MINI's cheeky personality.
