Mazda CX-60 (2022-present) Pros and Cons

Pros	Cons
High quality interior	Slightly firm ride
Large boot	Plug-in hybrid tech could be more polished
Enjoyable to drive	Reliability concerns

Quick Summary

The Mazda CX-60 (2022-present) is a premium-feeling five-seat family SUV that marks Mazda's serious push into the upmarket segment. Unveiled in 2022 and refreshed in 2025, it rivals the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Available as a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid petrol with 323bhp or a 3.3-litre mild-hybrid diesel with 197bhp or 251bhp, the CX-60 combines Mazda's philosophy of efficient, higher-displacement engines with impressive practicality. The 570-litre boot expands to 1,726 litres with the rear seats folded, offering more cargo space than most plug-in hybrid competitors.

The CX-60 delivers an engaging driving experience with a firm yet composed suspension that provides excellent handling and road connection. The 2025 refresh improved steering response and refined the suspension for better handling and comfort. Well-equipped across all trim levels, even the entry Exclusive-Line includes leather upholstery, heated seats, a head-up display, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Company car drivers benefit significantly from the plug-in hybrid's reduced benefit-in-kind tax. Running costs are reasonable, with the rear-wheel-drive diesel achieving 55-56mpg and the PHEV offering substantial savings when regularly charged.

Best for: Drivers seeking a stylish, well-made family SUV with engaging dynamics, company car users benefiting from plug-in hybrid tax advantages, and those wanting premium feel without premium badge prestige.

Not ideal for: Buyers prioritising ultimate comfort over handling, those seeking the most polished plug-in hybrid technology, or those concerned about reliability records.

Comparison vs Key Rivals

The Verdict

You should buy the CX-60 if: You're seeking a stylish, well-made family SUV with engaging dynamics, a company car user benefiting from plug-in hybrid tax advantages, or wanting premium feel without premium badge prestige.

Consider alternatives if: You prioritise ultimate comfort over handling, seek the most polished plug-in hybrid technology, or have concerns about reliability records.

Competitive Position: The Mazda CX-60 is a compelling alternative in the premium family SUV segment, offering distinctive styling, engaging driving dynamics, and high-quality interiors that rival established German marques. Whilst it trails the Ford Kuga, BMW X3, and Audi Q5 in overall CarGurus ratings and user satisfaction, the CX-60 compensates with superior practicality, lower pricing, and a more engaging driving experience. Its plug-in hybrid option provides significant tax benefits for company car drivers. The CX-60 represents excellent value for those prioritising driving enjoyment and quality over premium badge appeal.
